How does one go about removing a big sert?
Long story short, previous owner repaired hole with a helicoil.

It came out, and i replaced it with a big sert. M8x1.25
It didnt quite screw in all the way, 18mm insert.

I have tired everything to remove it.
Used a screw extractor, thats what the time sert site says. The 7/16th extractor just gets stuck, and wont budge.

I even tried the craftsman tool, where it hooks up to the drill. Same thing after the drill part stops working, the extractor stars working and gets stuck.

Any suggestions? I dont want to have to drill it out, because they done make anything bigger than the big sert

I'm guessing here that the surrounding metal is aluminum? Maybe some heat? I've used timecerts on a Northstar and I don't think those things are ever going to come out.

How about just grinding it flush and using it as-is? Seems like it's in there solid, even if it didn't fully seat and engage all the threads.

only problem is that the original threads are not flush with the outside of the block

sent time sert an email and they said to use the drill bit that came with the kit and start over

The drill in the kit is .406 inches. ACTUALLY you might want to drill slightly smaller 3/8 .375 inches this way you don't accidentally oversize the hole more.

Then you could clean it up with the .406 drill included in the kit.

Again I am concerned the hole is not drill and tapped deep enough for the 18mm length insert. You must have the hole prepared to a least 1" deep.

Also check that there is not chips in the hole the insert should screw in by hand flush to the surface.

Yes then you should be able to install another insert. You probably will want to use red loctite on the next one because the threads are probably
a little loose because of trying to remove the other insert.

Best Regards,

This is what the people at time sert said. Wish me luck
