Only you could do something that bad to the bone. Now what I wanna see is one of those crazy stands you make for this 3000lb behemoth:lol:

That is remarkable to say the least. How much do you think it will weigh when complete? I love the way you finish even the hidden parts of your projects, Royce, that is the mark of a true craftsman.

Far out!!!

I'm interested in the pressure screw (Acme?) and how you affix the jaw to the sliding box. That seems like a point of a lot of stress once the jaw gets opened wide and its past the lower support. Do you have the nut mounted already inside the sliding box?

Lajonesy,
I'm thinking 1333 LBS!!

Matt,
I just got started on mounting the jaw.
I welded it to the slide and will weld some scabs on the sides and back to send some of the forces to the bottom of the slide.
I put a couple pics in the album that shows it.
I don't have the nut welded just yet.

Dkroth,
I'll put the coffee on.

Thanks all

It's about 3' tall sitting on the floor. Might want it in a pit, because anything big enough to need this vise is likely to be pretty tall by the time it's clamped in there.

Royce, I'm about 100 miles away, in Delta Junction.

WICKED COOL! Are you building just for the heck of it? What color are you going to paint it?

Thanks Tool,
I stumbled over the jaw tower pipe last summer, saw a vise in it and it just snowballed from there.
So yes, all for fun.
I am undecided on paint color, any thoughts?

That thing looks fast, and I don't say that about many Vise.

Any temptation to hide some log splitter parts inside?

How do you plan to tighten the jaw? well I
guess I should ask, what or who do you plan
to use to tighten the jaw? A Team of Horses?
Isn’t Paul Bunyan dead? Oh wait that’s tale.

LXC,
Catchy name, but already taken!

Slewfoot,
My thought has been to make this with a conventional screw.

Hephaestus,
1-3/4" acme screw.

Thanks all

If I was not as absolutely far away as I can get Conus, I would be there in heartbeat. Absolutely stellar job Royce. I do not know what I would use it for, but I want one.

I hope Royce never moves to TEXAS (where everything is bigger)

Since Rolls Royce is taken how about Viceroy but spelled "ViceRoyce" It uses the english spelling of vice but it fits better visually.Or cut to the chase and just call it "The King".

It may need to be air or hydraulic or at least quick release so you don't have to hire the team used to tighten it for too long.

I haven't read this entire thread -Biggest Vise - but I think the King is being born here.

Royce, you never cease to boggle the mind! Looking at the 1st photos was one thing but then reading the specs was a whole new ball game, Wow, just Wow.

Thanks 2ool,
I think I got a name figured out and will divulge it when it’s locked in

This will have a 1-3/4” 5 TPI acme screw, so it will take 100 rev’s from full open to closed.
How’s that for long winded!!!!

I added a pic to the album showing a mock up of the spherical hexagonal meatball that is close to what will be made from bronze, it’s interesting.

Wow dude. I think your fish stove was the coolest thing that I've seen on this forum and you've just about topped it. Good work, can't wait to see it finished!
