My brother used to do high dollar restos in a 1920's vintage ex-Maxwell/Chrysler/Dodge/Rambler dealership that was two stories, had an elevator, and was about 6,000 sq. ft.

He ran out of room and bought a 1940's vintage ex-Ford dealership building that was over 40,000 sq. ft. and he just used it for storing his customers cars...whew!

Excellent point!! Used to be a sport dominated by "off the shelf" parts. Now everything is custom. The "every man" racing is pretty much gone.

The everyman racing is SCCA, NASA, Grand-Am and other forms. Nascar evolved over the years just as drag racing has, Pro-Stock ring a bell, the only thing stock about a pro stock is the door slammer body.

Pro Stock body's are not near stock anymore either. Ck out the hood that comes half way up the windshield now. Its a shame.

stock is a thing of the past, when you're going 200mph around a corner a 'stock' car just isn't going to hold up. I do enjoy SCCA Pro and NASA series racing a lot though becasue they are cars off the show room floor, gutted and caged up. Even Grand-Am GT is like that, but the Daytona Prototypes are way cooler.

Where's the stock?Up to last year, the trunk lid and windshield were the only OEM parts that could be taken off the race car and would fit a production model, not sure if that is still true for the COT.The only engine based on its OEM predessor is the Ford (Boss 302),all the others are basically updated copies of the original Ford and have nothing in common with what is found in any production vehicle.
As for Nascar shops,Joe Gibbs only has an average sized one. Some teams have bigger and schwankier palaces than his!

They were going as fast as they are now in the late 60's and early 70's. :headscrat

Now I agree it's safer now... I stopped following it in the mid 90's.

That's absolutely true!! I remember when 70's cars used to top 200 MPH on a regular basis. The only problem in those days was that the tires couldn't keep up with the conditions on the track.

I'd like to see this shop in 2 years - after every major car company (and other sponsors) pulls out of NASCAR. We'll be back to SCCA "stock" car racing in a big way!

The real innovators have gravitated to the last bastion of speed, where people can still experiment and test.
Bonneville. Ya gotta go at least once, and then once is not enough.
