Hi All!
I've been lurking around this forum for a while now (12 months plus if i'm honest) and have decided it's time to add my own little project. The aim is nothing flash, just organize it a bit to allow room for working on the various bikes that inhabit it. As much as I'd like to have freshly painted plasterboard walls and epoxy flooring, that ain't going to happen.

The plan is pretty basic: some shelving down one side (RHS), shift the bench to the back wall, bikes pretty much where they are now and have the left hand side free for hanging ladders etc on.

First job will be to get that old school locker down. There's also one on the outside that's got to go. They may be handy. Not sure.

All ideas gratefully accepted!
Enjoy.

EDIT: You may notice my sketching/scratching has the shelving along the LHS not the RHS as referenced above. While standing around in there today it dawned on me the roller door will impede on the 2100mm high end frame of the shelving. After 12 months of visualizing the end product this is the first time I realized it. Funny how things like this take so long to become clear.

Welcome to the board! I know you say you're going to keep things limited but frankly, I think most of us said that before we found this site ;). Looks like you've got a nice space there, good bones for starting.

This may just be me, but before you dump those steel lockers (I assume the other set is identical), I'd be tempted to take em down and clean them. Looks like they actually stand on end (louvers down I'm thinkin). Metal cabinetry is not cheap, and re-purposing these guys could be super beneficial in keeping the place organized (ie: different lockers for different types of tools, hardware, etc). A coat of paint and they'd have a cool retro look. Older lockers are probably thicker steel too. You may find with these guys filled up you need less shelving, and then the garage modifications snowball from there.

This is a good space, enjoy!

Re: the lockers. I have been thinking along the same lines. The one out of shot is a 1100 tall single door unit. The indoor one is about 1700 tall with a 5x2 configuration. Both will need a bit of attention before becoming serviceable.

Bit of action today. Confirmed my idea of shelving down the RHS and went in and moved the existing bench to the back wall. Man it's heavy! Took me close to an hour shuffling end to end to swing it the 90 degrees.

Here it is in it's new home. I think this will be one of my next projects. It needs replacing. the MDF shelves are bowing, the ply back is falling apart and I'm not a fan of the sheet metal top. Too easy to scratch the bike/motorbike parts i'll be working with.

A trip to Bunnings with the trailer and a handful of gift vouchers and out I walk with 3m of adjustable pallet style shelving to go in this now vacant space.

That means tomorrows job is building the shelving so I can get this lot back into the shed.

Happy Days!

You're on the way! I like your idea to use the old lockers as overhead cabinets. The one thing it guarantees is no doors left open. Where are you located? I gather by the use of metric measurements, not the US. I'm guessing New Zealand, or Australia.

The lockers are remnants of the previous owner. Personally I don't like them, but am reconsidering ditching them. They will be stored while I decide.

Correct on location, I am in Brisbane, Australia. Not too many regulars I see from this part of the world. Not that it matters.

Cheers.

There has been a small hiccup this morning. It would seem my tape measure is wrong! I had hoped for a 1800mm span with an adjoining 900mm span for 2700 of shelving. Hardware didn't have any 900mm beams in stock so i bought some 1200mm beams thinking it would squeeze in. Wrong! I hadn't made any allowance for the actual width of the upright or being able to access the bikes for removal. Argh well. I'm going to load up the unit as it stands in the photo below and see if I need any more space. If not I can return the 1200mm beams and buy a new tape measure!

I'm actually thinking the space between shelving will be a good spot for a chair and storing helmets shoes etc.
