So I am a rookie welder. I picked it up as a hobby last year and am basically self taught thanks to YouTube and a few forums.

That being said, here are a few pics of a stand mount I built and am really stoked about. It started as a heavy duty steel table that wanted in my garage. Here is the evolution:

The stand works with a trailer-hitch type set-up. Meaning I can slide it in and out of the receiver part when not in use. I can also attach different "bench mounted tools.

The Park Tools peice was the item I obviously didn't make, but I needed to build the base. The Park Tools bench mount was just way to short. On their base, the bike is just off the floor versus at a good working level. So, I made a new pole out of identical steel stock that came from Park Tools. I just needed to cut the post, drill a few holes then weld the post to the base plate.

Thing works awesome! It is completely rock solid versus the portable Park Tools model I was using:

The thing holds a bike perfectly. Not a wiggle when you are trying to apply leverage to your tools.

Now a little paint is in order....

Any thoughts for improvements?

I did the same thing about 9 years ago.

In fact, online now to call up the Campy shifter rebuild videos on YouTube. I got my parts from Branford, now to put it back together (and pray). 9 speed circa 2000. I coulda rebuilt it to 10sp if I hadn't just put on a new 9sp cassette....

Also of course find a base of your choosing and you can use this as a wash stand too

Recently got around to making a bench mount for a new Park clamp. I'm seriously limited on space so it's nice to hang it up when not needed. Used primarily for positioning frames when welding out.

I just got my first stand and I'm in the process of rebuilding my MTB. I wish I had purchased the bench mounted stand for stability reasons. But, it works. Yours looks very nice and I really like the blue. What rattle can color is that?

When I built mine I kept my bicycle work stand separate from my workbench and made my own clamp rather than going the Park Tools route. With the weighted base (and the ability to stand on the base) this stand is much more stable than the folding tripod commercial versions. But I am seriously considering using a similar column with an even heavier base along with the wall mount version of the Park clamps pictured above instead of the vise grips or pony clamp. I use mine to hold string trimmers and sometimes move it close to the welding table and use it as a "third hand". Also since I made both the vise grip and the pony clamp for the stand I sometimes mount the spare clamp in the vise on my workbench and use it as a second bicycle stand.

Very cool, TLC. If you don't mind sharing...how much did you spend on materials to build that table?

The only improvements I can see is to make or purchase a tool caddy for the side or top. They also have trays that mount up to the stands on ebay. Not sure if you used the same diameter tubing as some of the Park Tool racks but if so they should mount right up. It looks great by the way.

The table looks very nice. You say you are self taught, so I am curious to see what your welds look like. What type of welding are you doing? Mig, Tig, stick? Again, you look to be very good at fitting.

I am going to geuss $300 in materials for the table?
