After 17 years of marriage, we finally got a house with a "real" garage. It's 28'X24' with a small storage area added onto the side.

When we moved in, we had a new roof put on both the house and the garage. I then gutted it as the previous owner has some sort of haphazard, poorly built, half torn down mess of a workshop on one side and a place to store his lawn equipment on the other. Once gutted, I had a 100 amp sub-box run, then built walls on the inside so I could insulate. With the insulation up, I have been working on putting up faux-beadboard.

Wiring consists of 110v/20amp outlets every 8', 220v/20amp outlets in each back corner (for heat), a 220v/20amp outlet at the front (for the A/C), a 220v/20amp outlet in the storage area (for the compressor), 220v/50amp outlets on each wall (for welding), and two circuits for the overhead lights.

I still need to run a 220v/20amp to the ceiling for the lift.

I haven't decided what to do for garage doors yet. I've been thinking about bi-fold doors, but I may just go with regular roll-up doors.

The slab in front of the garage needs to be torn out and a new one poured. I also need to build a large storage shed for lawn equipment and car parts, and tear down the big, block shed that almost blocks the garage door. That door is currently blocked up, but fortunately the lintel is still there.

Still working on colors. I'm thinking something darker for the first 5 or so feet from the bottom, then white. The ceiling will be inexpensive metal roofing.

Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome!

Spent the last day or two making shelves, going through boxes, and figuring out where to put stuff.

What was the original purpose of the small building blocking the left garage door?

It's not actually blocking the door. So far as I know, it's always been a shed. It will be coming down in the future, however. I also need to tear down the poorly built wall that fills in the second garage door, and install a door there.

Looks as if it will be a nice work space when completed!

Suggestion: It may be too late, but running water and a utility sink is always a nice feature in a detached garage.

Concern: I share a little skepticism regarding the chord removal from the trusses. Those chords are to prevent the building walls from bowing outward so I hope you've given that a lot of thought. I realize it's TN, but ....
