Thanks, I’m thinking one major tool/machine + compressor plus a few small loads.

200 amp should be plenty. I have 3 220 v circuits in my 100 amp panel. 1 for lift (20 amp ) 1 for compressor (30 amp) and 1 for a welder I havent installed yet since my welder is broken. All my lighting is LED and the full load for lights is 12 amps. You should tons of space for activities on a 200 amp

Welcome to Arizona! We came here in 1985 to escape Nebraska winters. Hopefully the HOA didn't hold up your proposal until after April, just to limit your garage door height( I hate HOA's). Your architect doesn't seem to appreciate your desire for shop floor space to actually do some work, as it appears his design is just for vehicle storage. I installed a 100A service in my new 24x32 workshop with 240V: 1-50A welder, 1-30A welder, 1-30A A/C, 1-30A comp, 1-30A lift(with a welder outlet on the lift post), 120V: 2-20A for wall outlets, 1-20A for outside outlets, 1- 20A for a brake lathe and tire machine, 1-15A for inside LED lighting, 1-15A for outside lighting and 6 empty slots in the box. Wall outlets are at 46" high, 7'6" apart with every other receptacle being a double. My shop has barn doors on the 24' side with an opening of 10'w x 8-8"h and will be used for vehicle maintenance, race prep, welding and fabrication. No plans for anything super tall in the shop_ except the lift.
