The new build started this week with footings and frost walls. :bounce:

We had to lower the floor to allow driving in from the steep driveway.

Also hit ledge, but that's par for the course in the Granite State!

That, my friend, is a serious hole in the ground. Tell me about those concrete posts I see formed up.

Hey Bib, Our house and this new garage is carved into the side of a small mountain, but we oversee a lake and a mountain range so we think it's worth it!

What I think your seeing on the right side is a couple of racks of forms.

The walls range from 8' tall (4'inground and 4 above grade) down to 4' frost walls that are needed in the winters here.

I will look around for some house shots but below is a shot taken in the winter looking out in one direction, but the eyes see in 180* so it's better in person.

Starting May 9th, the stick built framing will start fast and furious so I will try to keep up with them with the photos. I make my living with a camera, but don't usually document my personal life, you know the cobbler's kids having holes in their shoes syndrome....

The garage will have a second floor with a shed dormer towards the lake but will used as storage first and I will finish as a guest (out law:)) area.

I am also trying to make it as low maintenance as possible and still fit in with our Cedar home. Cedar Impressions vinyl siding that look like natural shingles.
After using 18 gallons of Sikkens stain at $65 a gallon last year to do 2 out of 3 coats, the last thing I want is another building to maintain. Anyone with a house facing the elements like this one is, knows the work!

Thanks for the comments, more to come as I can. :willy_nil

I looked and came across some more photos of breaking ground for the new driveway up to the new garage which is at the opposite side of our everday driveway.
The first photo is a pro clearing the area.

The next a larger excavator carving in the drive.

Then my toy in front of the house, which looks out to the lake and Mtn. range.

Then finally me digging a ditch for conduits to a lower area back in the fall.

That is a good looking foundation! I like the fact that you included a large French drain on the upper side ... ya can't over drain a foundation.

What is the 4" PVC standpipe on the left side?

And regarding the tractor and accessories ... when is see a guy with toys like that, I always show the pics to my wife and tell here how much the guy's wife must love him!!

Ha:lol_hittiha Come on John's wife...... buy him a new toy!!

We wheelbarrowed stone up that side and around the corner, the 4" corregated pipe, more stone and then landscape fabric to keep it clean of silt.
The dirt guy who installed the drains recommended that we include that stadpipe for future tie ins or clean out, so I said go for it!
I couldn't wait to go back to work and the office to rest!! ;)

is that view of first connecticut lake?????

No, I'm in central NH overlooking Squam Lake. Asquam to the natives. Squam is the second largest lake in NH and where the film "On Golden Pond" was filmed.

I've been helping my family do the build so my wife had to take some photos for me. I'm the good looking one in the photos. :bounce:

We did some more sheathing, raised the rafters, started the facia and soffits and then started on the gable partitioning.

Going well, IMO.

Thanks Slim and Willy, The rain here has slowed us down and kept me from bringing my camera out to take further photos, but we've gotten the managable windows in, all rake and dormer done and waiting now for the roofing company to come after being rain delayed.
I'm hoping the door is installed on tuesday and the plan is for my other brother to run electrical out to it on saturday.

we'll see........ can't wait to put my tractor in it!

I understand the Epoxy paint is the best?? Will it stand up to the wear of my stuff?? :lol_hitti

Continued over the weekend after the rain let up getting the siding up.

This Certainteed vinyl siding is good stuff, a lot of work compared to the vinyl clapboard but worth it to me! :)

A rainbow that came out saturday night!

More siding of cheek walls, and boy did I hear it from the bro's about the angles! I offered them cheese and crackers with that "whine"

I then used their staging to paint the Azek trimboards.

that garage is gorgeous. seems like it went up very quickly too!

2 Weeks at 10 hrs. a day with 3 rain days.

Love that siding!!

It appears to be a different style than that on the house ... any particular reason for the different choice or did you just like it better?

The Lindal Cedar home was our getaway home and we had plans to move up here. I hoped the cedar would hold up to the weather and not be stained but every 8 years. Not to be, the salesman recommended a stain that had to be done at least every 3 years. (spent all summer working weekends, not much tof a getaway) After 8 years and trying to keep up with ir, I finally found Sikkens stain. My hope now is that I can wait every 5-6 years to stain and in 10 years when I hit 60, I may finish the front of the house in this Certainteed to match the garage. So, long story, still long, I tried to match the house as close as possible and still make it low maintenance. The last thing I wanted to do was add a garage onto the the staining list! :yikes:
