Not sure if everybody noticed, the ebay bit holder is 3/8 drive, not the typical 1/4 drive, so maybe its not all that common in local stores. Irwin and KD both make one, Graingers has the Irwin I think for about $6, so ebay is cheaper including shipping.

Get a 3/8 socket with 1/4 allen key, then pull the allen out. If you get a decent one it will have a grub screw that you can use to hold in the new bits. I have a MAC tools set I use for this, my craftsman ones don't have the grub screw.

I have sets of all the common bits permanently in sockets. 3/8 socket with a 1/4 hex and retaining ring or clip sounds pretty handy to me. Sometimes I need to hammer the bit in, and then reach in with the socket on an extension to turn it.

I'm looking for something like this as well- 1/4 driver out put and 1/2 drive so it can be put onto a 1/2 drive 450 makita driver- I'm out on a farm and the old boy is regularly working on tough bolts and screws- he's recently started buy impact drivers and the like- (hes spritly but over 60). Alot of our stuff is diffrent sized and we're out in the country and the nearest tool store to stock this stuff is 3 hours drive so having an addaptable coupling that can be used with a ratchet and extentions would be great. does anyone know of a worldwide brand that make these?????

1/4 hex bit in a 1/2 drive impact isn't going to last long. Better to use the whack it with a hammer type impact drivers.

Bits for the whack it with a hammer impact drivers are usually 5/16, and some are 7/16.

That said, 1/2 drive 1/4 hex bit sockets and holders aren't hard to find online, and shipped anyplace.

LOL, yer We've been snapping the 1/4 drives in a normal hitatchi driver just trying to do roofing screws into timber. - some of them i cant get out or in with the normal driver. And using a hammer and driver on tex screws on a ladder is a bit hard. lol- have tried. All good mate. I've have ordered some of those ebay ones and i'll see how they go- I might annoy some more tool seller over here in oz to try and get the ones i want.
If anyone does know of a supplier in oz of them please post it up here cheers

I know it doesent meet your criteria for not being sold online. but I have been looking at some of these
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0026GJ5DE/?tag=atomicindus08-20

wera makes them in all kinds of different sizes. You can get them in 1/4 3/8 and 1/2 drive. long short. all kinds of options. And wera makes good stuff. Im getting ready to break down and get some of there screwdrivers but have a few other things to take care of first.

Hope this helps

I have one of these adapter sockets that came in a toolbox I bought. It's a Napa brand labeled with a ring of m-m-m-m-m-m-m if I remember right.

It's a chrome socket though, does anyone know if this adapter is available as an impact socket? Not that I really need an impact socket but the chrome sockets seem to get stuck in the ring on my Milwaukee M12 impact more often.

Thanks,

Erik
