I saw this beauty being sold in Amazon for $30.99b3eff1_5e62d685000b44f98505f2641df84f74~mv2.jpg
They are made by Efficiency Manufacturing in Milwaukee Wisconsin.

Usually the bit organizers I find are made of plastic, urethane, foam, or rubber. And go from 6 to 32 bits. These fit 60 bits, and are made of aluminum, so definitely more durable.

For now they offer them in raw aluminum, and anodized black.

As far as the variety packs I have a dewalt magnetic screwdriver kit that has sae and metric and a smaller kobalt kit. I also have ah inch pound torque wrench i keep with those. Seems like that selection has me covered for most bench work. For impacts and driver bits I use the dewalt, milwaukee, bosch and makita kits that I pick up on sale. I have never had a need to have them in a block on a bench or believed it would benefit my work flow.

I just drilled a bunch of holes into a piece of plywood. It looks like the OP's first photo, except 4x as big.

Since that's the best way I found to organize my bits, I can see the utility in the factory-made version. It's nice to just have everything laid out at once if you're looking for something particular.

That's what I used to do, but my problem is I've run out of space in my shop for storing tools in their original boxes / cases including bit sets. As soon as I buy bits now I take them out of their cases and load them up in 22 LR ammo storage boxes. They are meant to hold 100 22 shells and could hold 100 1/4" bits but I prefer to load two columns and leave one empty, then fill the next two columns , etc, so that they are easier for me to get in and out. Loaded that way each holds up to 70 bits in a drawer in my tool chests in a fraction of the space they would have taken up in their original cases, and I always know exactly where they are at instead of searching for wherever I left that Dewalt or Milwaukee clamshell case last time I used it which was the system, or lack thereof, I used to use. Now I don't drag my whole set of bits to the job. I just grab the ones I need and I'm much better about putting them back when I'm done.

There are certainly better mousetraps. Finding a better or more convenient way to store anything is all upside, no downside especially if it saves some space for you.

For me, the juice just isn't worth the squeeze.

Well, I just bought one and am sending it back.

I really wanted this to work, but it is not going to happen at this price. Holes are drilled too small for over half of my 1/4" bits. Drilled holes were measured at 0.2730 inches diameter. Hex bits that did not fit were checked and from corner to corner measure 0.2815 inches. That is a size difference of 0.0085 inches. 67% of my bits do not fit in those holes. The end of the hex starts, but that's it. I really don't feel like drilling 60 holes in a thirty dollar item to fix the issue. 18 bits out of 54 fit in the holes. 36 bits did not fit (not all bits are shown in the picture below). The bits that did not fit are shown lying in front of the "Bit Kit". Most of my bits are DeWalt made in USA. Seems the made overseas stuff like those tap drills do fit. The website says they are out of the first run, so maybe they'll address this on the next run.

That's disappointing. Hopefully they fix the issue in the next iteration/revision.
