I'm looking at buying the Sunex master bit set: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01J7SBT7S/?tag=atomicindus08-20

But the storage case is massive, eg not going in a tool box drawer. Ideally I'd like to be able to store the bits in a drawer in the tool box without the case being closed. So I can see all the bits at a glance.

I've seen all the options like the Tekton bit holder, BitBoss, Ullman, HF, etc but none of them have size/type markings on them like the Sunex case does.

I saw these two trays in a Youtube video which I'm assuming was part of the purchase.

And I really like the idea of the DIY made(?) holder in post #6 above - if you could consolidate some of the dead space.

But does anyone know if there are bit holders out there that have the size/type markings on them? I'm mostly looking for storing the C6 bits and not so concerned about the power shank ones - although extra bonus if I can store those as well.

I was thinking of hacking up the Sunex case but quickly realized that would be futile and not worth it.

Other options I'm contemplating is buying different colors of these (appropriately sized): https://www.etsy.com/listing/841468...l=1&rec_type=ss&ref=pla_similar_listing_top-1

And labeling the rows by type (similar to post #6's groupings).

Or maybe something like this: https://www.etsy.com/listing/116079...m=e0e201f9&ref=listing-free-shipping-bundle-1

For ease of mobility if needed.

I have not seen any bit holders that are marked as most are not standard sets. I have the PB Swiss bitblocks hold 10 and are compact and I have them set up according to styles. But I don’t use mine much as my Bondhaus T handles torx, metric, standard hex in holders sit on my bench cover 95% what I use.

I use a Milwaukee bit case since most of the time I need to take the bits with me to whatever I'm working on, and may need a variety of sizes/styles for the job. It's also helpful to have the case to toss the screws in so they don't roll away. I try to keep them roughly organized by type/size, especially annoying ones like torx and hex bits.

IMO the case has a good balance of bit retention vs. not having to fight the bits out (unlike their impact driver set, which has way too much grip), and the modular racks give you flexibility and good retention. I keep them rotated outwards so that the tips are all facing up.

I just wish they had a larger size so I could carry more long adapters and nut drivers without needing a second box.

I like these for the grab and go kit and for little projects around the house where you start with a few bits and then have a handful by the time you are done. I keep a empty bucket with the organizer on it for house stuff since the shop is a good walk across the yard, and these clip on the handle for quick access.

Made up some slip in wooden inserts for sardine cans. Plan to make up a bench top rack to hold 9 tins. These are presently drilled for 1/4" shanks, others will be drilled to accept hex shanks. That will accomodate 243 bits total.......should be enough!

Those are, in my experience, labeled.
The lid is set up for duplicates (PH2, PH1, PZ1, PZ2, and hex to square adapters, inserted flat.
For an easy to remove wide selection, the bottom tray is great. Bits can / will fall out, so it's poor for mobile high-jostle use, but for the price, this container works well to organize a lot of different bits. Cut the lid off and use it in your box. I replaced some bits with higher quality Apex bits out of necessity, since they're budget bits.

In portable, I am happy with the Bosch impact-ready sets with 8 possible rows for 25mm bits, 4 rows for power drive 50mm, a box for loose stuff, a combination like my pic, and pretty good quality bits. I scan the Bosch stuff at Lowes for sales on consumables like these and 18v stuff.

Honestly, after seeing a contractor working on my house use large prescription bottles, I went to those. One for Phillips, one for torx, one for square drive. His system worked for me.

I use a few different products for different situations. This is made by Ernst and holds my main set in my tool box.

This came from Ascend Tools and is for my overflow:

This Snap-on blow molded container is one of my portable boxes:

I may have to convert to a pistol ammo box like KnurledNut is using. That box is no bigger than my blow molded box and it holds 100 bits. It is a great combination of storage density, easy access, easy identification and the bits are securely held in place when the box is closed.

That ammo box is a good idea! I like the case that my Klein mini-screwdriver set came in. It latches, has actual hinges, and the bits aren't wedged in, so they are easy to get out. I wish there was a generic version like it for 1/4" bits.

Those look like the Harbor freight security bit set or a similar seller since alot of that type stuff is just a re-brand from a few makers.

ETA: I took a quick look on Amazon with "security bit set" and a bunch came up.

I like the “working hands” lotion containers. All stickers peel off nicely.

Not a good solution for all your various bits, but good for the common construction bits that accumulate.

What is your opinion/experience with the Ascend Tools holder? I am interested in them and it seems like they ship to Europe.

I use PB Swiss BitBoxes and BitBlocks.

PB Swiss Bit Box: PB 990.Leer (holds five BitBlocks - total of 50 bits)
PB Swiss BitBlocks: PB 970 (each block holds 10 bits)

I also carry BitBlocks loose in a small Veto PB5 bag for my road kit. The blocks hold the bits nice and tight; they never fall out.

I haven't used the bit box, but I love the PB Swiss BitBlocks. They are so simple, and yet they are just perfect in how they hold bits securely while still making them easy to remove.

The Ascend tray works well.
  • Dense storage - It holds alot of bits in a small area without making it difficult to put my fat fingers around a single bit.
  • It holds bits so they don't fall out but are not difficult to remove.
I would buy it again. The rest of their storage organization system doesn't interest me.

I use the segmented plastic containers Harbor Freight sold my first assortment of bit in about 30 years ago; before that I used Military Surplus plastic boxes.

I never worried about the bit positions being labelled, what was essential was to label the case lid with TOP as one spill was enuff.

I ordered a set from Amazon US, will hopefully be here within a week or so.
