bit storage, what do you all use?

currently i have a bunch of different things i keep in my bit storage at work. i only have the milwaukee bit case i purchased for all the impact adapters. its the older one that has the right side for nut drivers and drill bits. and the left side is the clear container.

problem is, i hate how my bits like to fall out because the left side is so flimsy, but i love how my nut drivers and stuff are seperated on the right side. i keep an assortment of taps and impact bits on the left side as well and unibits, but its quickly ran out of room.

what is a good, easy to use, organizable bit storage system you guys have found?

I have a bunch of mechanics time savers and I really like them. I have one for screwdriver bits, one for hex, one for torx etc,

i like the idea, but i hate having to pinch bits to pull them out. and my stuff gets carried around everywhere so hopefully i can find an enclosed case to keep things from flying around. i absolutey most hated bit cases i have are those small cases for household screwdriver bit storage that put the bits one right next to the other... i need a tool to pull those things out!

works great, the labels all come off and can hold thousands of bits. Seem they got lost all the time so I buy the random kits that come on sale and just dump them in here.

PB Swiss bit block/ bit box. They don't work well for anything that's bulky/wide, but for "normal" bits of varying lengths they work pretty well.

I use me of those harbor freight round metal parts trays with magnet bottom. It also serves to add magnetism to the bits as they sit in storage

I have 3 Rigid impact bit sets similar to your milwaukee set. Extra stuff gets thrown in them specific to the job I'm working on. I also use a little 7" Plano box and a magnetic parts holder. I think Plano boxes might be exactly what you're looking for.

I carry my driver bits and smaller drill bits in the larger size of these...Tough as hell and the latches stay shut until YOU open them. I've got one that is over a year old and get opened and closed multiple times daily and the latches still function like they did when new. I haven't found any small case better...at any price. 2 sizes. I've got quite a few that I use for other small items.

Ive always preferred to buy quality over quantity so have never wanted the 1M+ piece junk sets. I simply have part of one drawer filled with a few of the small ziplock bags that my favorite bits come in bulk.

i actually have that set because it has a bunch of metric size bits. but they are really junk, anything smaller than 5mm in torx or 4mm-5/32 and the bits will twist like crazy. the case doesnt even keep them in the right place, i had bits all over when i opened it back up after a week.

I use 9mm cartridge boxes.

I use the smaller red-topped Plano boxes to hold 5 each of every bit i could ever need in my roller cabinet...

And i use the bigger RCBS boxes i had laying around to hold bulk numbers of each type of bit that get stored in a Vidmar.

They have a magnetic bottom so I can set them on angled metal surfaces and they stay put.

I still had a lot of the bits sitting around so I picked up one of these type organizers (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000LDH3JC/?tag=atomicindus08-20), put it on the bench, and sorted them all out. When I lose/destroy a bit I just grab one out of the appropriate drawer and replace it.

A zippered canvas bag currently, in the past I have used altoid tins. I also have board hanging on my peg board that I settled s shallow holes in to hold bits. It all depends on the specifics of my environment and task.

I had this issue recently, as I seem to have amassed a bunch of bits from different sets, onesies and oddballs over the years. Add into that countersinks, adapters, and other strange 1/4" drives, I needed something better than an old Plano fishing lure box.

My dad is a machinist and he bought a small 3D printer last fall to do rapid prototypes for clients. He loved it so much, he bought one for home. He makes odd dollhouse things for my daughters and pulls a bunch of things off of websites that have 3D plans for all sorts of strange (and cool) things.

I asked him to make me a rack for my bits, both short and long ones. Needed to hold about 50-60 bits, and not be something that I need to wrestle with to get the bits out. He sent me a drawing of some that he found, and we made some alterations to suit my needs.

He made me a couple of different sizes, which is great. Got a nice small black one that has all of my most used bits in it, and the larger in purple that hold spares, long adapters, countersinks and other less used bits...

Thanks! I actually am working on a drawing for a holder for all of my random metric taps and 1" hex dies that I have collected over the years. Put that 3D printer to work for something that can actually be used!

Well, I use those tins for alot of small items.

I come across used yellow Dewalt bit containers, and use them to hold my often-used sizes and spares. At 50 cents to $1 a piece you can't beat em.
