so after much deliberation i finally bit the bullet and put down some VCT.

Before this happened though my dad made some great cabinets for me to keep things organized.

I still have to put some shelves in but it was great to have somewhere to store everything that previously lived on the floor while i did the tiling.

Here are the plans drawn up

chalk lines going down

glue going down

tiles finished (not per the original plans) just have to seal and edge then i will paint/epoxy the back section and the third bay

still lots to do including trimming the cabinets and one more coat of stain on those last sets of doors. all in all i am very pleased with the outcome.

let me know what you guys think:beer:

Thanks guys. Yeah the pattern is a little different than the checker pattern most do. Just wanted something less 'busy' i guess. And yes definitely a plus having a dad who loves projects like building cabinets :rocker:

Put 3 coats of Zep sealer down. I was going to polish but I am happy with the satin sheen it has.

Looks like you have less than 400 square feet there.
I am also thinking of VCT in my garage that is 660 sq ft.
Including the sealer, what do you figure your gonna spend when all is said and done?

71cents a sq foot, $30 approx on glue, $50 on the tile cutter and $7 on a trowel. i would buy 2 more boxes than you think because though they are stong tiles, they are very brittle when handled. also i went through a few because of mistakes or when making cuts.

then you need the sealer $18 and a finishing mop $20.

I got mine for under $.50 a sq ft, and didn't use a cutter. I just used a carper knife and scored a line several times then snapped it off. Went through several blades, but it worked well. Cut them heated when doing intricate cuts.

My install was 550 sq ft, similar costs but I also rented a tile cutter and roller for a total of $75, didn't chip any tiles.

It cost me an additional $60 for baseboard moulding, contact cement and transition strips for the area from the concrete floor by the garage doors to the front edge of my VCT.

Upon completion I spent $50 for Armstrong sealer and liquid polish.

I used a leaf blower and then swept everything a few times. No floor polisher was used just finished with the sealer.

That shine is ridiculous! Te floor looks fantastic. I love the pattern. Is there a concern with hot tire pick up with VCT?

I do know of it ... I was curious if just pulling in and parking would cause them to lift or coming in and turning the wheels back and forth in place trying to manuever on a lift or something like that

Hasn't been an issue on mine. Not one tile has lifted in any way. I tend to use my garage more than most who install VCT. I have scratched and gouged it, stained it and marked it, but it has held up well. My floor was just to make clean-up easier, and it does that!

All that said, for even easier maintenance, I would have gone with porcelain had I known how good it was. Barely cost more too.

Yeah the glue is pretty dang strong. As said above, makes cleanup a piece of cake.

Looks great man. Are you going to address the entry/transition? If so, how?

Yeah I will do the same as others on here and put some aluminum strip down. Though I started it 1.5" in so it is not right knowledge the edge and damage should be less likely.
