Found this gem on the local Craigslist. It is in great condition and has everything there, including the tool rests and good stones. It is 3 phase, but I would just slap a VFD on it. Problem is, I cannot find much info on it. I got the guy down to $180, will offer him $160 on the spot and im sure he will take it. Should I go for it? Anybody have any more info?

I think that is still too much cash for a 3-phase non-Baldor grinder. England is not exactly a mecca for grinders. There is very little demand for big grinders like that since they have been replaced by modern belt grinders, and the grinding speed is no better than a smaller 6/7/8 inch model running at double the rpm (actually less). Fine for wire wheels though if you can afford them. That said, I bought my 10-inch Dayton grinder for $50 and converted one side to a 2-inch belt which I find far more useful than a dangerous wheel.

Fyi, it looks to be missing the eyeshields which could be pricey to replace

Those B&D grinders are excellent industrial/commercial grade machines, but not sure it's worth it if you don't have 3 phase. At least around here, could find a single phase grinder for less than the cost of that 1 and a VFD.

You all make good points. I didnt know if i found a rare gem. The VFD alone would cost about $300. And i did notice the eye shields are missing as well. I will probably pass on it.

A 1 HP VFD, even a 115 volt one, is available from Dealers Electric for less than $150 if you did want to go that route.

You see a few of those over here, as well as other English made B&D it was all good stuff in its day and they were a quality brand until the mid 90's when they chased after the DIY market. I would want to pay way less for a 3 phase machine though.
