I have had a Black and Decker string trimmer for the past few years. It has always worked pretty well, but the battery it came with and the second I bought for it were both junk. They never lasted more than 5 to 10 minutes and never held their charge when they were on the shelf. Today I finally had enough and did something about it.

It works awesome. I was ready to pitch it and get one of the Milwaukee ones they are launching next year. Not any more. Anybody else ever do this?

There is a more compact way to do this if you wanted to. Not that much more effort:

This is exactly what I was shooting for. I had thought about how to do this clean without spending any additional $ for the last year or so. I finally decided to stop thinking about it and just work with what I had laying around. I had a 18v Dewalt grinder that was defective right out of the box. Something wasn't right in the armature and it smoked a battery the first time it was used. Dewalt sent out a replacement and I just had this laying around incase I ever needed a part off it. This works for me, but your set up is really nice.

From a fellow southern Minnesotan I must say I'm disappointed that baling wire and pliers were shunned in favor of those fancy plastic doodads.
On a more serious note I say good for you for setting an example we all should consider. I think most, myself included, would have jumped at the chance to go out and start their "Milwaukee addiction" nonsense instead of fixing and using what we already have

Yes, nothing at all wrong about what you got here. If it works, use it!

Like you, I've found the Black and Decker tools are really Dewalt lite and not bad, but the batteries are just terrible for them. Any brand adaptor is a good one for Black and Decker Single Source tools! - Paul

That's funny, I had a roll of baling wire out, and decided the zip ties might look a little cleaner:lol_hitti

I really wanted to get the latest and greatest Milwaukee toy for next summer, I just have a really hard time replacing something that works great now that I've fixed it. Plus I got to have fun out in the garage for a while. Thanks man.:rocker:
