I have had my workmate for well over 20 years. (at least i think it is a workmate. All identifcation has long since worn off)
The top finally gave way and I am replacing it with new wood.
The question is .. has anybody seen this type of screw before and if so what is it called?
I can use different bolts/screws for the replacement. I just have never seen this type before.

Looks like a variation on a hub stud. I wouldn't search for screws, rather for studs that go into wood. Not sure if that will help.

Damn that's a cheap price on the basic workmate.

Looks kinda like a fastener IKEA might use in some flat pack furniture.

But what’s the underlying idea? The splined section seems to be intended to prevent the fastener from turning, which is kind of an odd feature for a screw. :)
