Had anyone done a black base coat epoxy with medium flake? I'm considering going this route with maybe some beige, white, gray medium flake. But would love to see some pictures of what others have used to help me visualize. Am I asking for trouble trying to keep a floor like that looking clean/nice long term?

Going DIY. Since posting this, I've found some online images of what I am thinking. These are more full flake though. I want less flake but a darker overall look. 7215.jpg7213.jpg

Here is a link to our gallery. We have two images on that page of a black epoxy floor with an epoxy clear coat.

Dark colors can look nice. However, you need to be aware that dark colors will show every bit of dust, dirt, footprints, and tire prints. They also highlight any small scratches that may occur. It cleans off easily, but it's a regular chore to keep it looking nice. It's why the metallic garage floor coating craze died down. People found it always looked dirty and highlighted too many micro scratches.

That is why lighter grays and tans are the go-to colors in garages. They do a much better job of hiding the dust and small scratches.

The cleaning will be something to consider for sure. This is not a showroom, just a typical suburban garage that houses two daily driver cars, typical lawn mower/snow blower and I work in there for basic car maintenance or even use for tool setup for home DIY projects. I'm good about keeping it a clean and organized space, but it gets used.
