The ceiling material is just textured drywall. The guy that did it used an oblong brush to stomp it. Not one of my favorite choices but it is what it is and I'm stuck with it.

The brush is a called a crow's foot. He tried to get fancy with it by making a straight line pattern. That's very hard to do with out a lot of talent, which he didn't have. It would be a fairly easy to fix with a couple of buckets of mud. If you do decide to change the color back to white. Hit it with a good coat of primer. Add some paint to the mud and thin to a pancake batter with water and it shouldn't need a coat of paint.
Then buy a crows foot, roll some of the mixed mud on the ceiling and stomp away. Just be consistent with the thickness of the mud and inconsistent with the pattern of the crows foot.

Shouldn't take more then a few hours. (not counting garage cleaning and reorganizing of course)

I've got a black ceiling, with silver walls....looks great!

Post the pics up. I'd like to see them.

I startedon the other side of the garage today, but now I have to work around everything. All my upper cabinets are on the floor so it doesn't leave too much room to work. I should have the ceiling done in a short though then start on the wall. Then the challenge of putting everything away somewhere. :eyecrazy:

If you would have been describing it to me without seeing it, I don't think I would have liked it, but after seeing it, I think it looks really cool and different.

Im digging the dark ceiling. Like you said you arent looking for efficiency. Do what you want. It ties in everything else there. Looking good!

How did it go Kevin ? If it makes you feel better, I'm repainting the ceiling of my garage, luckily I don't have as much to work around as you do.

I just finished up the ceiling about 15 minutes ago. I need to go over a few spots after I get my cabinets hung back up, which is after I get the wall painted.

I found out that painting a textured ceiling something other than white, leaves a lot of missed spots where the roller skips over. So I had to go back and touch those places up. As soon as I take a short break, I'm going to get the wall paint stirred up and get the wall painted. Then hopefully get the rest of the trim up and start to get the garage back together. All I've done is taken a few wall cabinets down but it looks like a dump truck backed in and unloaded in here. I don't know where everything has come from :eyecrazy: I'm gonna try to have most of it straightened out by tonight. It probably won't happen. but I'll give it my best.

Black is nice if you like living in the dark. If you want to get efficient use of your lighting, white is the easiest choice. The only other choice for good lighting is a silver reflective color.
My thoughts exactly. Function before fashion! >> (my ceiling is bright white)

I don't have any of those. Munsters, or whatever that spider is. I have Grandaddy Long Legs, and they don't care what color a garage is, they build nest everywhere. Come Spring, I'm going to set off a few bug bombs.

Not to get off track, the Harvestmen pictured is not a spider - note the single part main body. They don't even have silk glands with which to build a web. You are probably referring to the common Cellar Spider which are often called daddy long-legs as well.

Whatever they are, they make a mess. I don't know about the silk glands on them, but they make something that they lay the eggs in. I'll see if the next time I run across the nest, if I can remember, to take a pic of it. They love the corners of a building.

I would have thought the black ceiling would make it appear lower. Not so? I leaning towards a white ceiling myself. To each their own I say, and good for you for doing "your thing".
I guess it's pretty common to have the corrugated metal wainscoting. I wasn't aware of the different thickness's. Has anyone run into any negative issues with the corrugated metal wainscoting?

I don't know whether the wide and narrow corrugated metal is a different thickness or not. What I have is right at 1/2" thick rib height. As far as the ribs go, what Lowes has shows 9 ribs per width or 2 1/2" rib to rib. What I put up is 19 ribs per width or 1 1/4" rib to rib. I purchased mine through the local lumberyard. Carter Lumber also carries the 1 1/4" Rib to Rib roofing.

I think it looks great .
Makes me wonder what to do with my ceiling :dunno:, maybe give it a silver look or grey or whatever as long as it is something different than white.
Even a custom paintjob with something like a clear blue sky is crossing my mind right now.

Something like this VVV

Well, everything is almost done, or as far as it's going to be for this year. I still plan on putting some tin around the bottom of the other walls, but it's going to have to wait until I get a little coin built back up. I still have to touch up the baseboards. I got a couple of corner shelves made and my speakers up. They go to a radio but it is also surround sound as soon as I pick up the cables. I still have to put Formica on the desk top where the 'puter is at. I got rid of my small Craftsman Lathe and picked up a couple of rotary tables that I need to refurbish. Floors will be next, come Spring. Not sure what I'm going to do yet, but I need to do something. I still have a few things laying around that I have to get put away. I did manage to get one other cabinet squeezed in on my one wall so I have 24' of overhead Gladiators. The bad of all of this is that some weekend, I need to go through the toolboxes and straighten and sort every drawer, then all of the overhead Gladiators, I need to empty them and sort things there. That will either be a ****** weather job, or a nice sunny day job when I can have all the doors open. On with the pics :rocker:

Very tidy in there, and I like the look. That being said, I have always gone white for the light as it seems my eyesight is not improving. I installed T-8 lighting last year and I really love it, don't need drop lights anymore. I know you are a machinist and was wondering how you like your Jet lathe. I have a 1946 Atlas/Craftsman and it does what I ask of it, but I think I would use it more if I had something a little newer and quick change. Thanks, Mike

The JET is not bad, but it is actually a benchtop lathe. So to change the gears, you're going to get a little dirty, moving the belt over, switching from front to back gear, but it's not a huge deal. As far as the lathe and accuracy, I like it and everything is tight. I have no problem making precision parts on it. The cost for the benchtop 13" x 40" was something like $4800 delivered and rolled into the garage. I had to assemble the base and set the lathe on top of it. If you would be interested in a JET, check with Tools-Plus. Very good people to deal with. If you send an e-mail to them they get right back to you within the hour. If you call and talk to them on the phone, and they say they will call you back, they do. That goes a long ways in my book

Nice place you have there. Good attention to detail. You were way more daring with the colors than me. When I repainted I went back with the same bland colors as was already there. The trouble with painting darker colors is that the darker you go the more the imperfections show.

On the corrugated metal, how does it transition at the trim, top and bottom? Did you do a separate thread on that part of the build/referb? Or do you have any close-up pics of that work, the trim and walls, that you are willing to post?

What's on the backside of the garage door? Did it come that way and you just painted it to match or did you add something to it that then got painted?
