Does anyone remember this 1973 Black & Decker promotional film about their line of sanders ("If you've got a job for a sander, then Black & Decker's got the sander for the job")? In this ad, we see:
* 7404 Double Insulated Finishing Sander (officially went on sale in July 1973)
* 7420 Deluxe Dual-Action Finishing Sander (it's all aluminum; if you listen to its motor, it sounds very rough) (also, one scene shows this tool jury-rigged to B&D's model 7651 dry vacuum cleaner)
* 7450 3" x 24" L.C.G. (low center of gravity) Belt Sander
* 7950 7" Commercial Duty Disc Sander
* U1450 Polishing and Sanding Kit for Black & Decker 1/4" and 3/8" drills (drill seen in this film is a model 7004)

I've worn out a few of that era of B&D ******** sanders.
Back then B&D tools were solid homeowner grade tools.
Unfortunately, the quality quickly dropped shortly after they started putting thier brand name on vacuum cleaners and kitchen appliances.

The first one they showed was the first Orbital/******** Sander I ever used I am pretty sure. Dad had one. Then he had his larger Belt Sander. Forgot what it was. We are going to clean out his storage this weekend so I will take some pics of all of his cool older Tools.

Cool vid!

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
My father had one of those sander and my grandfather had one of the dual action sanders. My father had a full compliment of those mustard B&D power tools from the early 70's. I remember them including the lathe because my brother and cut up evey piece of wood we could find so that we could make num-chucks. I eventually burned all of the saws and drills up in doing various projects. In fairness When I was 8 I went with my father and grandfather to buy a water heater at Grainger and while their I grab a Milwaukee tool catalog and fell in love! My grandfather who was in charge of maintenance for Brach's candy explained the difference to me, I eventually ended up with some of his Craftsman Industrial power tools, but I think the smell of those mustard B&D tools burning is etched into my sinuses' memory.

That's very true, when I was a kid (in the 1980's) B&D was a good value. My father used them regularly. He'd beat the snot out of them, change the brushes and they'd last another few years. Recently I purchased an old school B&D circular saw and a jig saw. Both have the cast metal bodies. The circ is in like new condition with the original blade. Paid $20 for the pair.

I have the finish sander that is at the start of the video, but it only has a foot long cord on it. It's still working after all this time. I also have a small 5 or 5 1/2 circular saw that I use every now and then.
