I've been tasked with restoring an old black and decker circular saw from 1963 I believe the model number is MOD 1.

The problem is the clockspring for the saw guard needs to be replaced, and I cant find a place that has replacements or a saw that uses a similar system anymore.... wondering if anyone knows a place state side that might be able to help. I got quoted for a custom spring to be made up, but it wasn't cheap to say the least.

Looks like a recoil spring out of a small weed eater or chainsaw. Go to a small engine place and see if they can match it up. Or, just bent a new U shape on the straightened end on the inside and reuse the one you have. I had good luck with doing that on my snowmobile once.

I've tried bending the ends of recoil springs like that with little success. The best one I did involved annealing the end of the spring and then bending it.
