So I have an old Black & Decker 7010 power drill that was given to me by a friend, and they could not get it working saying it was tripping the breaker every time they pressed the trigger so they gave it to me saying I could have it do whatever you want with it so I plugged it in to confirm the stated issue and it is indeed doing the exact same thing I tested it front to back with a multimeter on continuity mode and I believe the issue lies within the trigger and somehow it seems to be shorting out the live and the neutral together when I press the trigger, I've taken the trigger apart and examined it and I cannot figure out for the life of me how this thing is supposed to go back together, if anyone has this exact same drill that I have would you mind taking apart the trigger and sending a picture to me

Three copies of owners manual here, but none tell you what you want. Did you find the short? Looks like the real bear is getting the copper tongue on the trigger in the right alignment in the terminal block. Pieces of the puzzle look easy from this hour when I really need sleep. Maybe it will seem harder tomorrow when I’m more awake, have had my coffee, and am fully functional.

Okay so I ended up just ordering a similar model of drill for parts, which still has a good looking cord and an intact trigger so I figured I can use it for parts

So just for the sake of double checking, you ensured that the field coil is in proper resistance and is not internally shorted and the brush holders are not shorted to the casing. If the switch itself is found to be the cause of the short, I likely have a few extra switches of that style that I believe are NOS Eaton / CH 250VAC/VDC rated switches.

Well I'll check it again to make sure, how much would the switch cost by the way?

Okay so I went and checked the resistance on both coils and they're both showing about 03.5 OHM on both coils
