I found this in the shop today, along with a few other things. It actually feels decently made. Does anyone know how old it is? I'm guessing 90's. Is it worth putting a new cord on? I like the fact there isn't an annoying safety on the paddle switch.

All of my Black & Decker Industrial tools are from the late 1980's - early 1990's. I could make you a sweet deal on a gently used 9.6 volt cordless drill, it will match your grinder.

That was/is what became the dewalt line of tools, They are great little grinders and tough as hell. I have had 3 of them for all most 20 years ( I got the first one in like 1989) and they are still going strong! Fix the cord and beat the hell out of it.

I have the same grinder. Got it at an auction and put a new cord on mine. So yes it is worth putting a new cord on it. I like how it has a lock on the backend to engage the the paddle for continuous use until you tap the paddle to disengage. It is one of my favorite grinders much better built than modern day equivalents.

I have two, and would pick up any working one I found for a decent price at a yard sale for sure. Both mine are well over 20 years old.

Definitely get a cord on it.

I have one. Anyone know where I can get the spanner wrench for it?

B&D has them I'm sure (there used to be an actual B&D repair/parts outlet in the ares here, I wonder if they are still there?), or you can get an adjustable pin spammer that will work.

Same as the Dewalt, even a Dewalt jigsaw was rebranded as a BD Industrial in black plastic.

I used to work for B&D back then and that is a great unit and what became the dewalt
Line.
You have 2 options the way I see it
Put a cord on it and use it or send it to me and I will

I have used spare computer power cords before
Every one seems to have a spare

Regretted buying this tool from day 1. The exhaust ports for cooling the motor blow dust right into ones face. As I use mine for wood and fiberglass this is extremely irritating. The paddle trigger seemed like a great idea .. until you've accidentally triggered it tooooo many times and realize this is down right dangerous! The design and functionality of the locking mechanism for the spindle is a total joke. The 1st one lasted a short time, B&D knew it was a poorly constructed part inside the mechanism and built a better replacement part ... which after time, also becomes a malfunctioning pos. Now, the only way to get it to work is to use a tool of some sort to depress the pin deep enough to get the locking mechanism to engage .... grrrrrrrr! Last B&D tool I've bought ... and I've also found DeWalt to be poorly built tools. Milwaukee for me!

I also have some experience with this unit. I will agree about the venting and they still make a couple versions of it, one in Dewalt and I love the feel for it but it doesn't hold up. I have overheated a couple of them by accident bring in hurry and really leaning on it and the brushes sheet out from wear also and ruin the unit.

They make a modified version on this chassis and I am going to see one of these days if the back end fits on but the Orange B&D at Walmart is a cousin to this, the 7750 and while I don't care for the switch as much is 3 times the grinder its industrial version is at 3 times the price.

A lot of great tools came from Black and Decker back then. Black & Decker is who made Snap-on grinders and drills at that time. I really like my Black & Decker stuff.

The old B&D industrial line was mostly very good stuff in it's time. I had a couple of their drills. They finally died of old age.

I am serious, the Walmart one is a better grinder and I am not intending on being funny in the least. As an operator I like the "feel" of the B&D as well or over any grinder I have ever used. I like the paddle switch, no doubt by far as good or better than any,,, as a reliability issue a whole different matter and its not with a single unit,,, I was a regular replacer, I should pull a box out of the basement for pics, going to the orange one has almost ended replacement and the 30$ is a bonus.

As I wrote in another thread you may think shopping at Walmart for the 30 grinder is un American somehow but I was tired of replacing units at 100 a shot or more at different store for the same made in china pos when the 30 one worked better I got 70 or 100 more to spread around my town vs shipping it off. Same for many tools,, set of Allen sockets,, even a set of Stanley wrenches, extra money I am not sending off to some corporate scheme (buy American concept) but the difference stays in my pocket and town.

BTW,,, the grinder is a special case, not all B and D stuff shines.
I wish I had a Walmart closer on occasion, they sell a lot of brand name for small markups. An identical microwave here in Kmart. 90 and 60 at Wally, sure a pinch of the 30 juice stays in my town but 25 of it heads to headquarters.

haters can have their opinion and i can have mine but it won't be a manifesto.

those are good grinders. tough from my experience.i have 2 b and d's and 2 dewalts. we finally broke a gear on one of the b and d's. i think it got dropped from a way up there so i can't blame the tool.

they have performed in great fashion for over 20 years on the oldest one.

it is also roughly the same unit as the 18 volt cordless dewalt grinder/cutoff tool.

It's the first grinder I ever bought and still the one I grab first. I am just a hobby type user though.

That's one of the best grinders ever made. I have several and use the he'll out of them with no problem. Places I have worked had them along with other brands and the B&D units outlived all the others in the same environment

It's worth to replace the cord. Not worth purchasing them though because not everything is great, Made in USA, for hand tools these days.

This is something to consider in evaluation. Its one of the things I elude to when I consider advice for a tool. The fact that it last 20 yrs can be different, even the operator has a lot to do with it. I haven't tried yet to see if the back end with the paddle switch will go on the Wally grinder, I bet the gear head from one would fit on SK farmers unit. easy replacement for 30$ or use the new one till it dies, put head on the old BD.

I wish they had the 2750 trigger on the 7750 guts and cord.

All this isnt the issue it once was,,, so the switch isnt a big deal. Earlier in my career would wear one out in a year or so on the bench. Switch comfort was a bigger deal when it was used like a yo yo every day. I gave 2 or 3 away for parts, still probably got a couple.
