Hey all,
I picked up a 70's Black and Decker metal shear and want to know if I am supposed to keep the blades oiled.
I can't find a manual for a vintage shear. All modern manuals make no mention of lubrication and just say to buy new blades when worn.

The old B&D catalogs, when they come to the sections for nibblers/shears, advertise a built-in automatic oiler for the nibbler punch, but not the shears.

Would the blades need oil? If so, would bar & chain oil be sticky enough to stay on the blades?

I don’t think you need to lube the actual shear teeth but probably the moving part mechanisms needs grease. I have a much older version and that part is greased.
Oh and if you paid ten dollars that earns a you **** award!

There is a chain discount store called Savers close to my house (a Walmart-sized version of Goodwill). I stop by there each night on the way home from work to swing by their tools section. Usually, it's just the ubiquitous Craftsman/Black and Decker 1/4" or 3/8" plastic single-speed drills no one wants. However, once a month or so someone dumps the contents of their dad's garage that didn't sell at the yard/estate sale and I walk in to see a bunch of aluminum power tools.

I've gotten nearly all my portable 50's/60's power tools there because I don't have time to chase yard/garage sales on the weekend.

One of my favorite picks was a 60's aluminum circular saw that wouldn't run because the only piece of plastic on it was the switch, which had sheared off at the rotating pin. I got them to mark it down from $10 to $4 because it wouldn't run, then took it home, cut a piece of aluminum plate, bent and ground it into a trigger, and it ran just fine.
