There's three aluminum frame model 300 on fleabay right now. One is currently $65.00 with $45.00 shipping. It's clean, but the seller says top front wood is slightly bowed. One is $45.00 local pick up in Ohio. I guess you guys would call me nuts if I spent $290.00 for a "mint" one...

What say ye?

I also looked at those on EBAY. Would almost spring for the one at 65, but it's just my obsession getting the best of me. Besides I do have a good one already and as soon as that one came in the mail I would trip across one for 5 bucs somewhere.
I'll just wait this time.

The Alum. ones are my favorite and as others have said, they are real handy to use.

Actually, IDK if I really want one bad enough to spend over $100.00 when a brand new one (albeit not as good or as cool) is less on Amazon.

If it is worth it to you, get it!!!

Some people spend a lot of money on car parts that are chrome to jazz up their rides.

Some people spend a lot of money on imported beer.

Some people spend a lot of money on big *** tv sets and even more for cable stations that have every movie ever made.

And in each case, there is always going to be someone who says why the hell do you want to spend all that money on that for?

Why? Because YOU like it and want it!!!!!!!

If you have the money, and you want the Workmate, get it!!! If you take care of it, it will last the rest of your life. You will create things using it. You will fix things using it. But most of all you will create memories that will last your life time of the things you made, and time you spent making them, and who you made them for/with!!!

Can't say if it was or not as o didn't install it but it looks correct. My mom bought it from a Kmart when I was a kid for me, I never used it until I moved out at took it with me a few years back. As far as I recall its been loose.

Several months ago, I read this thread and "had to have" a Workmate. Naturally, the one (local) aluminum one on craigslist was $125, so I settled on an early sheetmetal version that I got a deal on. Within a week, I found one with the aluminum upper framework for $35, so I was set...until the early all aluminum one came along...

Keep calm and enjoy the hunt for the one that you want at the price you want to pay. :rolleyes:

I am not the one selling but I went to look at it yesterday. You think this is a good deal? I was going to offer him $10.

He is missing all of the orange clamps and the table top has some paint on it. The base looks to be some sort of metal/aluminum.

I could not find too much information about the 200 model, is this a good one? Thanks guys.

The 200 was my first WM, and has been a workhorse. I still have that original unit. it does not have the rotating jaw that allows you to clamp down on the static jaw, but thats' not the most used feature, at least for me. (I think I needed that once...) if needed, you can simply C-Clamp the item to one of the jaws...

My only gripe on this and newer WM's is the plastic leg catch on the extension legs. Get some vaseline or beeswax on the rub surface and they will last longer. They get dry/rough and then snap off. It's supposed to slide and when it doesn't... if they are broken the catches are available as parts from B&D

Only once? I really like that feature. You can see that I am WorkMate challenged on the right-hand side. I need another one (at least).

Having more than one is definitely a plus. I made the mistake of getting a 400 to mate with my 200, but they have different working heights. so the next major remod saw me getting another 200...

Wow. I didn't realize that the (real) Workmate was such a classic. I kind of feel guilty now for having 2 not-nearly-as-functional Jobmate knockoffs, but even those poorly made ones really are handy to have around. Right now I don't have a bench built in my garage, so I'm using 1 of them and a roller stand to support my temporary work surface. In my limited experience, these things are great as temp space, assembly areas, portable table to bring dirty projects outside... etc.

Very interesting. I have seen those for sale, but never knew that they had/need the plastic inserts. Thanks for posting the pics.

Didn't know about that either. I'll admit I resisted the Work Mate concept as a novelty tool for most of my life. Now I know better but I still don't pull one of the 2 I have out but 2wice a year.

BF,, Side pic with it extended please? I have similar unit, but it only lifts to about 45 degrees. (The lock screws have positions for other angles) so mine WONT work as a wall mount bit it is more adaptable as a bench mount...

I like that size as a wall mount conceptually though, for a "bench tool station" that could be dropped to be less in the way when not in use...

I just picked up this 79-090 Type 1 bench top Workmate for $10 at the Carlisle car show. Its doesn't look like it was used at all.

Workmate 200. I'd been waiting for the right guy behind the counter at the pawn shop, and today he was there. This had been moved around the pawn shop for about 10 weeks or so, told him it needed to go but it was priced too high. Don't think I overpaid, but doubt I made a steal either @ $25, had been priced @ $50.

For the most part in above average shape for a 40 year old tool, some rust issues to clean up and a couple of new boards for the top.

How did I do fellas?
