The bench top bolts perfectly to the Craftsman table for smaller jobs. The height works better for me as well (along with the tilting top).

Re: Black & Decker Workmate

So I finally got to set up my new aluminum type 2 (now confirmed) and compare it to my type 4 steel. Weight is about the same which I knew going in but is still disappointing. Love the metal handles, and the metal frame release latches, and the metal clamping brackets.

The dogs are a nice heavy plastic with almost a rubbery feel. My steel did not include dogs but the ones with the benchtop are much lighter. The jaws are almost identical but the type 2 seems just a hair thicker.

The feet are nice on both. I like having 8 adjustable feet although the top level feet on the type 2 are mostly bent inward. Need to look at that sometime. The type 4 doesn't have them and it really doesn't look like they were ever there. It does look like it would be easy to swap bases if the top feet are messed up too bad. The type 4 has 3 push on rubber feet and one adjustable on the bottom of the legs.

As they sit, both are exactly the same height which is nice even though I probably will not keep the steel.

Not exactly a Workmate, but Workmate accessory.

Found this Gripmate, in it's original box even at a second hand shop yesterday for 5$.

At that price I couldn't pass it up, even though it is missing the pegs/dogs. I'd sort of been looking for one and this is the first one I see out in the wild.

They appear to be rare, but if anyone has or finds a set of pegs for it, I'd be a buyer.

I would get a set on eBay with the pegs and then turn around and sell yours (or whichever are worse) with the box for the same price. They don't come up often but they do occasionally and aren't outrageous price wise.

Anyone know anything about the wm700 plus? Worth checking out for $30?

Don't know anything specific. But yes worth 30.
-quest

Yeah I'm sure it is worth the $30 but I already have two and don't need another. Unless this is better then the steel 79-001 type 4 that I already have of course. The dogs look neat with what looks like a rubbery coating on the jaw.

Searched google for quite awhile and only found a couple ebay type ads for them in england. Can't tell if they have a pressboard top or how many plastic parts they use. If it was closer I would at least look at it but it's an hour away.

The type 4 would also have had all 8 feet originally. The four upper level feet were identical to the one round threaded foot used on the bottom. They came in a separate envelope and had to be installed, so maybe that owner never got around to it and they were lost.

Re: Black & Decker Workmate

So what looks to be a practically new type 2 aluminum popped up tonight.
The top sticker is still mostly there, NO paint damage and the jaws look unused.
Going to check it out tomorrow.

Do you mind divulging the asking price?

Got it for $40 and another benchtop for $15.
The top is cracking a little from age and one corner has scraped the ground but otherwise looks great. The benchtop also looks almost new but unfortunately did not come with the base clamps I was looking for.

Will be going out to oil it up and check it out more closely in a few.

Let me be the first to say, "You ****, you lucky *******."

Great find!

Ha. So I took a heat gun to the sticker and got it off in one piece. Sanded the crack smooth and soaked in some linseed oil. Sprayed down all the moving parts and everything works like new.

Really is hard to tell if it was ever used. The few nicks on the jaws are probably from moving it out of the way for 40 years. I'll probably try and re-apply the sticker to the bottom of the jaws if I can do so without making it look bad.

Oh and the PO is sending the bench top clamps that were missing so that was a good deal as well.

Has anyone here shipped a full size workmate? What's the best way to do such a thing?

Got the new workmate hung today. The Craftsman push clamp makes a good hanger for the clamp bag.

This is forsale close to me. Wall mounted black and deck workmate.

I've never see one mounted on the wall. Seems to fold up too so it's actually pretty neat as far as a little work bench type deal. Anyone have experience with one like that?

I apologize for not going bac through 42 pages.

I picked up a Workmate for free on Craiglist. It had no jaws at all but otherwise seems to work good. It's black, very clean.

Where can I find a model number on it? If there is one who are you guys using to provide replacement original jaws, dogs, etc? Any advice is appreciated.

Just seen them on eBay so far. Look just like the bench top but with a different base. Did it really come with 8 dogs?

Post up some pics. Best to make your own jaws unless you like to pay up.

The black ones are typically later model but the model is generally painted on the H frame and jaws.

A friend just gave me one of these like the one pictured that I copied off of Ebay. Go easy on my as sometimes I am not the best visionary, what are some examples of how the tilt top will make my life easier. Thanks!!

Thats for wall mounting, not necessarily a tilt-top.

Shows how much I know. I would not have guessed it was for mounting on the wall. Cool idea. I don't think mine goes to 90 degrees though. Thanks for the heads up.

Going to use mine in tilt mode mainly for blade sharpening but I'm sure there are a million other uses. Make a base for your grinder or other bench tools and now you have multiple angles you can set them at depending on need. Makes a quick drawing/work table if you make a nice top and clamp it on when needed.

NO, this is the bench top model. There is a wall mount model that looks similar... see the pics just above from newshockerguy.

Oh and we need pics of yours asap.

I think I just missed one on Letgo. Saw something similar posted with some kind of stand. I thought it was the benchtop until I looked closer at these. Asked the seller about it and heard nothing back for days until he marked it sold. If I can still get the pic I will post it up.
