Black floor epoxy with poly shows every shoe print. Help

Just had my floor epoxy finished in my garage black with white and grey flakes and a poly clear. Let it dry and now my shoe prints are all on the floor when I walk. It can be wanted off but I don't feel it's reasonable to be washing my garage every week. The installer says that's normal because it's black. My neighbors is grey and he has no shoe prints when you walk but I don't think he has a poly clear coat. Can someone tell me how to remedy this problem so I don't have to spray down my garage every week? Thanks in advance.

Keep one of those Microfiber dust mops in the garage or use those sticky step pads for door mats that they use in clean rooms. Eventually the clear top coat will get scratched enough for that brand new obvious shoeprint to go away.

Next thing you know, some guy is gonna come along and tell us that their black car is hard to keep clean, and shows scratches and dings too easily....

There’s a reason why silver and and tan are popular car colors, and a reason why gray and beige are popular floor colors. Now you know why....

Yeah, dark floors show everything. This isn't being caused by the poly

I guess my neighbors is a very dark grey, and doesn't have a shiny clear coat and his didn't place footprint marks so I was just a little surprised when mine did. Muy apologies

Welcome to the forum. Sorry for the lack of constructive comments so far, but the reality is that there isn't much that can be done. Black floors are notorious for showing dust and dirt and the only two ways I know of to "fix" the problem is mopping the floor regularly or covering it up with something else.

I wouldn't have known that, either. I wouldn't use black because I would deop nuts, etc and never find them. I'll bet it looks great, though, when it's clean.

Your issue is perfectly normal and expected. Many installers will generally try and talk customers out of black before they apply it for just the reason you are complaining about. Your neighbor's floor has the same dust, you just can't see it.

The general rule of thumb is; the darker the color, the more you can see all the dust and foot prints. A black glossy floor collects no more dust and debris than a gray glossy floor. It just proudly displays it for you to see much better than the lighter colors.

IF it absolutely drives you crazy you might consider another clear coat application with traction additive like our SpheriTex 110. It will result in a matte finish which should help to camouflage the shoe tracks and dust.

My wife's best friend had white carpet installed throughout her house. This friend also has four small dogs and four cats.

The friend is constantly working at keeping the carpet "clean." And not so happy about it.

Just sayin'.

What does white carpet have to do with black epoxy?

To the OP, I was reading your post to my wife and as soon as I said black she about lost it. Yes, we own a body shop and yes she knows all the problems associated with black finishes. Apologies for the chuckle at your expense...lol.

You can rest assured though that you probably do have the best looking garage floor in town. It is just going to require a lot of upkeep to keep it clean. I went light gray, no flakes and clear coat with zero grit additive in it so it would be easy to clean and also so it would be easy to find any small parts that may get dropped. It is slick and requires a bit of upkeep itself. I bought a bunch of carpeted rubber mats from Home Depot to put in high traffic area and under all of my projects. I keep a dust mop out there to do a quick buzz around the floor.

Why I'll never ever have another black car.

Love my black car, it stays in the garage when not in use and with the help of a car duster and an occasional spot spray of waterless wash I haven't completely washed it in 2+ years... for a daily I like silver cars.

I have black Supratiles where my cars park, dark gray everywhere else. Both show dust and dirt pretty easy, black shows it more. Guess it's the price you pay for darker colors.

is it still possible to scuff the surface and do a full chip broadcast and clear over the top?
