Black Iron Pipe

Hello. I have been reading the forum for a few days. Here is my dilema, hopefully you can solve or help me.

I want to run air to the front of my shop about 120 feet from the compressor. I was told to use 1" black iron pipe for this. I will be working in a 22" crawlspace, above ground to do this. I checked with the calcs and I should be fine for CFM, and PSI. I am going to be moving my garage (auto Repair) to the front. What is the safe PSI for 1" pipe, i am guessing they call it schedule 40, was what I was told when I called a few places.

Compressor is (CURRENTLY) OLD KELLOGG 20 CFM, 5 HP from a Horizontal tank. Possibly upgrading to a newer CHAMPION running max of 175 PSI. What are your thoughts.?

Until your compressor exceeds 226 PSI working pressure, you'll be OK ;>)

you could also run 1" nylon semi air brake line.

Check out Rapid Air as well, http://www.rapidairproducts.com/ They sell some rather basic pneuamtic industry components as a kit form. Super easy to run and you don't have to screw around with threading pipe to get custom lengths. If you want to add a drop somewhere that you didn't originally, cut, insert T, done. Do a search for a local fluid-power supplier (Numatics (yes, not pneumatics), Parker, Norgren, etc) and give them a call. The hose it self is extremely cheap. Last time I bought a 100' of 3/8 it was $11 (non-automotive industry, hence the smaller 3/8) The connectors can add up, but layout what you want, how many T's, 90's, tube to NPT adapters you'll need, etc and give them a call.

Make sure you use a level and install your airline with a drop. The compressed air will cool during that long run and the water will condense out of the air. You want a drop towards the end opposite the compressor, an eighth of an inch per foot ought to do it and a water trap with a drain at the end. You should have nice dry air with that long of a run!

When running the 1" Black iron pipe it will handle the pressue of 150 160 PSI? Someone today told me the pipe and fittings were only good to 125PSI

I use black iron pipe in my garage, my 2 stage 5HP tops out at 175#. No problems, no problems.

Yeah I know lots of garages with black pipe in them with no problems. Just thought maybe something changed that i missed.
