Black (oxide) Snap-On ratchets?

Got 2 Snap-On ratchets for Xmas. Both are a blackish oxide kinda finish. Almost looks like they are unfinished or something. Are these something funky? Got 1 GS936 and 1 GF936.

No, they are used in some industrial applications where chrome is not allowed due to possible flaking. They are also nice because they don't get as hot in direct sunlight as chrome does. Just keep a light coat of oil on them and you won't have any rust issues. The finish will where off in time if you use alot but isn't anything to worry about.

I'm definetely liking them thus far. I've had Craftsman ratchets for quite some time....always with issues. My buddy gave me an old Snap-On wrench that needed rebuilding. The local Snap-On guy took care of it no charge, and it's been the best ratchet I've had by FAR. Asked for a couple more for Xmas. The wife said she bought them both on Ebay for less than $90 shipped for the pair. I told her she did good.
Just had never seen one this finish before.

They are also a little cheaper as far as price goes. They are still just as durable as the chrome ones.

Yes, the black-oxide is very handsome!

Torx T8 for the 3/8'' drive and Torx T15 for the 1/2'' drive in case you ever want to re-oil them.

Never yet had a finger ripped open by a flaking black oxide finished tool.

The real nice part, worst comes to worst you can redo the finish youreslf in the back yard on a campstove.

The only thing bad about industrial finished tools is that they tend to disappear in a dimly light engine compartment and the sockets are harder to find when dropped.

Be careful... I think those are sealed head ratchets.

I love the black finish much more then the chrome finish and i wished the made more tools in this finish

I got into using the black finish when I was helping with the dirt track cars. Every one else had the shiny stuff so the black was obviously mine.

A couple of touches of light colored paint helps a lot to identify them at night!

I do not loose my tools.........They tend to grow legs though.
