Black Pipe to Reel hose

Hi,

I just finished installing 1/2" black pipe for my compressor and also purchased the Northern Tools 3/8" 50' hose reel which I am going to mount under my bench. I am trying to figure out what hose to purchase to go from the 1/2" black pipe to the 3/8" fitting on the reel. Looks like about 3' of hose is all I need. I assume I'll need to take the 1/2" hose down to 3/8" (have a fitting for this already), but what hose should I purchase. I assume the hose would have to have some swivel fitting on it....it needs to have male ends.

I am attaching a picture (stolen from someone else on GJ) to show what I'm trying to do. Any help would be appreciated...I'm sure this is simple and I'm just being stupid. Thanks

Eric

Some places like HF and Northern Tools have short hoses available.

You can buy a short length of hose from a real auto parts store. Then buy some hose barbs and hose clamps for the ends. Some parts houses may even be able to make up a short crimped end hose.

Fluid power distributors can also make up a hose for you.

Go to any shop that specializes in hydraulic equipment and ask them to make a hose for you with the correctly sized male ends. You might also be able to find one at any tractor supply store. Good luck!

I am pretty sure that HF has the 3 foot sections for what you are trying to accompish. I thought I saw them when I was looking at the hose reels.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. There is a hose store in town that claims to make what you want, so I'll try them today and then if that doesn't work I'll head down to HF, they are somewhere around here I think.

I thought PVC was not OK for running air lines?

The local hose places may charge you more for one small section.
An alternative could be to get two hose bibe connections, two hose clamps and a short connection of reinforced hose that is at least rated for 300#.
This will allow you to install the hose bibs first and then the hose later to allow for the correct placement.
I am sorry I did not read Torgues suggestion. There is your Air Wizzard.

They make short 3' hoses with a swivel on one end for this very purpose. I have seen them at harbor freight and tractor supply. Should be $10 or less.

TSC has a compressor whip hose 1/4 to 1/4 2 1/2 foot $13 or 3' long 1/2" thread 3500 psi hydraulic hose male ends $14. Good if there's a Tractor Supply anywhere close by.

OK, problem solved. I had a place in town make me a pneumatic hose with male threads, 1/2" swivel on one side, non-swivel on the 3/8" side. I posted a picture. One again, thanks to all the great suggestions!

Here is the picture of the hose.
