Well gentlemen let me start off by saying I hate spiders. I was phobic of them for the longest time and here in Klamath Falls we have a big spider called a Hobo Spider. Not as big as those pictures on this thread but they are about the size of a quarter and are considered dangerous. I have these in my shop but I have found that carburetor cleaner is the fastest thing to kill them with when they come out of hiding. I also run my old school hot rods in there for awhile and the fumes pretty much gas them and everything else in there. But I had to work under my house and it's a tight crawl space. I figured those big guys were under there and I talked to a "bug man" and he advised me to take a little broom with me and I could squash them if I saw any. Also I could shine a bright light at them and they would retreat. I wore coveralls with the leg openings taped shut along with the sleeves taped. I would also like to add at this point that I have never seen ANY spiders in my house ever. Well I never encountered the big guys under there. But along the outer foundation walls in the openings there I notice two black widows in their webs. I had to work close to them and I really didn't want to involve them so I shined my bright work lite at one and she slowly retreated out of my way so I could do my job. The amazing thing I noticed was a triangle shaped cascade of earwig body parts below her web all down the foundation wall and in the dirt. Now I do get earwigs in the house and they can be found everywhere. Well I could see she and her partner were eating well and over time my earwig problem in the house have gone away. I decided to leave the black widow alone as they don't come in the house and do one hell of a job solving my earwig problem so this works for me.

I just wanted to share a positive story about the black widows that I have seen under my house. One other factor I can live with is they only live on the outside foundation wall. I found out later that the black widow also eats on the big hobo spiders. So this is why I never found the big boys under the house. I am acutely aware the black widows are under there and I have found that if I leave them alone they leave me alone and I have some natural pest control going on under there.

I've enjoyed this thread and just wanted to add my story to it.

i remember reading online at one point in time...

and you guys that are afraid of spiders will love this...

it said that no matter where you are, you are never more then 6 feet away from a spider.. scary thought.

personally i dont mind them, i think ive been bitten by a spider once in my life, compare that to the number of bites from mosquitos ive gotten.. hate them bastards.

Now speaking of that I read years ago that the average person will eat six spiders while they are asleep in their lifetime.
Now that's something to think about.

Almost hate to admit this but I was around back then and do remember the video.
