Hi,
This is my first post in this forum! Great forum btw.
I have a old blackhawk 1/2 flex head ractchet (49995) but the mecanism is shot.

I have been to my local tool center but they cant do nothing for me. The blackhawk tool line is exclusive for the US (i live in Canada). I also email blackhawk but they don't seem to respond to there emails.

I search for a rebuild kit but i dont find anything. I wonder if there is someone on the forum who has already bought the rebuild kit for the 49995?
Thanks!

Is there a chance you could post a picture of the mechanism? I have a 49995 if memory serves and I'm fairly sure some sort of Proto rebuild kit would fit in there. There's a lot of Proto/Challenger/New Britain/Blackhawk cross pollination when it comes to ratchets..

Welcome! I'm not trying to hijack the thread but I've been wondering about a Blackhawk 34945 I have which rattles when shaken. I opened it up and everything looks fine inside, but that rattle is unnerving. Does it need a rebuild or is that normal for Blackhawk ratchets?

Thanks,
Steve

+1

put up a picture. sometimes the same model number may have used more than one mechanism through it's life span. if we can get a pic someone will point you in the right direction for a rebuild kit or the appropriate ratchet to volunteer some "donor" parts.

lots of different brands used that same mechanism. the specifics are escaping me but those familiar with it will know them off the top of their head. i think you will need to get a tooth count as there was two differant ones. i am positive that someone will have the info.

Is it just me, or does it look like this ratchet could be fixed with a bb and maybe a new snap ring to anyone else?

Wow. I have never seen that mechanism before, and certainly not on my Blackhawk. Which is a 49945 as it turns out.

But you've come to the right place, and someone's seen that mechanism before.

It's a New Britain ratchet. New Britain made Blackhawk tools at that time. NB also made ratchets for many, many other brands.

You can read about New Britain on Alloy Artifacts.

There are quite a few Blackhawk rebuild kits on ebay. New Britain did make 45 and 60 tooth versions of some of their ratchets, so figure out which yours is before you buy a kit.

But as others have said, your current kit looks pretty good. What problem were you having?

The rachet do 1/4 of turn then jam. In both way (on and off).

The mechanism appears to have already been opened. Maybe is missing some part?
I try to find some diagramm of the assembly without result.
I also dont remember the location of the springs (I disassemble the mechanism a long time ago).

Thanks is really appreciate!

I know this thread is very old, but this might help someone. Spaenaur posted a picture of the mechanism and parts of the ratchet and it helped me solve my issue. I had picked up a Blackhawk 1/2" ratchet 49945 which has similar parts. It was a freebee and didn't work. I took it apart, cleaned it, and put it back together and it still wouldn't turn or reverse. While researching, I found this thread which showed the parts. I also saw a YouTube video of a disassembly. I saw that mine did not have the "V" spring that acts as the switch. I thought about what I could do. I prayed for a cheap fix just so that it would work. I cut a safety pin to match the "V" spring. It works like a champ!
