Blackhawk by Proto

Hey, does anyone know if the new "Blackhawk by Proto" stuff is US-made? Is it up to the same standard as older Blackhawk or current Proto? I'm looking at some bit sockets but the price seems a little too good to be true. Thanks.

I'm not sure about the bit sockets but the regular sockets are USA made as of fairly recent.

Lots of the Blakhawk tools are USA made, but I don't know about the bit sockets.

I called Proto recently about the blackhawk locking pliers and they told me the COO. So, give them a call and they can probably tell you.

I just received in these Blackhawk Flare nut wrenches this week. The pouch even said made in USA. I also received a few Blackhawk chrome sockets a few months ago that were US made.

What part numbers are you looking for specifically and what price have you found?

I just bought a Blackhawk 1/4 & 3/8 socket set......all the sockets and allen wrenches were USA and pretty impressive.......but the ratchet was imported.

I was going to point this out.

The chrome sockets and wrenches (not the ratcheting ones) all seem to be USA made, but the ratchets aren't.

I don't know for certain but I'd guess that if the price is low, the bit sockets are made in Taiwan. If the description mentions S2 steel, then Taiwan for sure. The Mac Tool brand bit sockets are made in Taiwan so it would be difficult to see how Stanley could sell Blackhawk at a competitive price and still be made in the USA.

I suppose there could be exceptions but the last couple of Mac Tool bit socket sets I bought recently were made in Taiwan. It wasn't stamped on the tools but it was plainly labeled on the outside of the plastic case.

I don't know what particular bit sockets the OP is considering, but if they're Allen sockets, than Grainger says they're made in Taiwan.

My Blackhawk by Proto ratcheting wrenches are made in Taiwan. Nice quality.

Not being (too much of) a **** but if they're taiwan why not just buy the lowe's ones? They're probably the same spec from the same factory from the same re-brand manufacturer; taiwan is not a large country. Unless they were a similar price (I'm guessing they weren't).

There seems to be more than a few Taiwanese makers and the quality level does depend on exactly what tool and who made it just like every other advanced country.

Not to hijack a thread, but... Could you measure the thickness of the 15 and 17 mm ends on these flarenut wrenches? I'm looking for some wrenches for a particular application, and most are tending to be just a hair to thick. Thanks!

Edit: maybe this deserves it's own thread... Anyone have the same information for the 15 and 17 mm Wright FN wrenches?

I know that all of their ratchets are assembled here in the USA but the components they are made from are manufactured over seas. Here is a 3/8" ratchet I got the other day.

we have a 1/4 and 3/8 blackhawk by proto tool set in my lab, probably 3ish years old i would guess, sockets and extensions are all stamped us made and seem to be pretty nice quality. the ratchets are free of any COO and dont seem to be the greatest. pretty loose drive shank and very low tooth count along with a plastic selector switch. i dont know if their open stock ratchets and kit ratchets are different though.

Not impressed with their ratchets. Have 3 1/4 ratchets from them, 1 is stiff and 2 have dead spots where it's difficult to spin.
