Well I didn't see this posted so I thought I would start a post about the key and lock cylinder for a black hawk floor jack. I have a S-4 model and a newly acquired SJ-18 both have the lock cylinder so you can disable the jack. I got a key that works the lock cylinder (some of the time) and the other handle it works even less often. My question is how do you remove the lock cylinder front he top of the handle? I was thinking if I was able to remove it, I could figure why the key isn't working the way it should. Of course it could be my key as well. If anyone wanted to send me a copy of the key that would be great too.

For ignition lock cylinders of 60's cars it was a matter of inserting the key and pushing a paper clip in the hole. I tried to do this trick on this one, but I haven't figured out how to pop it out yet.

SO anyone removed the lock cylinder on these units?
Anyone have a spare key they can send me?

thanks

I was studying it a couple nights ago. At first, I had hoped that pushing the bolt/pawl/dog/whatever-it's-called back into the opening would release it, but that's not it. I am guessing that it has some sort of a latch that locks it in place with no way to get it out without destroying it. I have no intention of ever using the lock, so I'll probably just put it back as is, but I would like to figure it out.

There's a pin that goes through the piece that stays on the rod. Otherwise the only piece that is visible outside is this part.

yah, I got it that far. I tried sticking a paperclip in the hole on top next to the lock cylinder, but I couldn't figure out what releases it. I did get both lock cylinders back to there normal position. So both jacks work now. thanks

I haven't. Fortunately, mine works. If it didn't, I would probably make a new knob just to keep it usable. I hate to think that drilling out the lock is the answer.

I don't think it's probable, but is is possible the cylinder was inserted from the bottom and the ring I see from below isn't a parting line at all?
