No affiliation with the seller. Just passing it along since these seem to get lots of attention.

My father used this Blackhawk jack in his automotive parts and machining business and I inherited it. I have used it many years but it has sat in my garage for awhile. It is in good physical condition, but it needs a piston kit as it bleeds-back. I put one in many years ago but never repaired it when this started happening again. The wire for the light is cut and the small u-joint where the handle meets to floor jack has been repaired. It really just needs a good servicing and coat of paint by someone who loves it. The imagesd below show the jack and the serail number plate. The info on the plate indicates it is a model S4, has a capcity of 4 tons, and the serial number is718295.

I'm always on the lookout for one of these. They look like they lift fairly high.
Anyone have a ball park figure on how high? Ideally I would like one that lifts around 25 inches or more. Maybe that's not realistic.

If he still has it I am gonna try to pick it up. Really need a good jack, my craftsman almost killed me repairing my shredder over the winter.

I wish one would come up for sale around me like that...I wonder what it'd cost to ship...

It would cost a ton to ship as the shipping weight would exceed 200 pounds. Looks like this one has been welded on the frame near the handle. Looks like a poor job as well. I have a welding machine so if it looks OK in person I will still probably get it.

Uh Oh, I hate to be the reason someone buys a Chicom jack....

I was the one who was lucky enough to get an alert on my craigslist app right after he posted it. I didn't know there was that much interest until I went and picked it up. I had been searching for one since seeing the Blackhawk SJ-18 restoration thread.

I found this thread while looking for the posts where there were some parts sources listed and I saw the title and wondered if it was this or another jack for sale.

Sorry about that... I hate to grab something at the expense of another GJ'er.

Can somebody explain why these old jacks in need of a rebuild are so sought after?

I'm assuming quality, is there anything else?

They are a solid quality jack. The 2ton blackhawk I have weighs somewhere around 150 pounds. Way nicer to use then my 3ton craftsman jack. They lift higher, are heavy duty, move easier, lift/lower nicer. As long as you can get a rebuild kit these jacks will last forever.
