I really wanted an American made floor jack. Wont see a ton of use. So could not justify spending a bunch of money on a brand new one. To craigslist I went. Found a Blackhawk SJ-1. Hasnt worked in 25 years. Front wheels rusted onto shaft. Ordered a seal kit. Put everything back together. It works. When I release fhe pressure to bring the jack down. Its leaking from the main stem. Anyone have any ideas or thoughts to prevent it from leaking? I know its pretty old, so not looking for perfection. As little leaking as i can have. Would be the best.

Take the u joint apart and remove handle. Looks like a nut there and probably a seal or o ring there.

Did you replace or forget to put the New packing on the release? That adjusting nut looks awful flush the body.

I got the seal kit from Lazzar's. The "packing" that was included was a small blue foam piece. It sits underneath a small steel washer.

There should have been a thicker piece of packing included in the Kit, Probably 1/4” thick, fit the release stem fairly tight when installed.

It’s also been a day or two since I’ve been in a SJ1/2 but I thought that thin blue gasket was for the oil fill plug... could be wrong on that. There are definitely 2 seals for the release, a thin leather washer and a thicker plug.

Would these be the two pieces? Which one goes in first? Will the steel tiny washer still go back on top?
