What is the difference between the 40032 and 40132 sockets
The only time I have ever seen the 400XX series in a catalog is in Catalog No. BA 38 (ostensibly 1938, and the production shown matches that year), printed in London, chock full of British terms (e.g., lorry) and Whitworth standards. It appears to be used to distinguish the early heavy-walled sockets of the "Lock-on" era from the thin-walled sockets.
40132 = thin-wall 1/2-inch drive with 12-point broach and 1" service opening
40232 = thin-wall 1/2-inch drive with 8-point broach and 1" service opening
40332 = deep thin-wall 1/2-inch drive with 12-point broach and 1" service opening
400XX sockets are pretty rare. I think I remember comparing a 400XX to a 401XX before on the Blackhawk thread. I will snoop around the thread and also my socket stash.
You can see the difference I am referring to on this page...
