Hi - Great site - long time lurker here...

Recently the threads on Blackhawk tools got me looking in my garage and I found an old tool box.

Anybody know when this box was made and what it's value might be? I haven't been able to find another like it on any of the threads...

Thanks!

Wow, that's a beautiful box.

I'm guessing it dates from somewhere in the late-1930s to mid-1940s. Here's a 1939 catalog image where the box on the right looks very similar to yours:

It also appears in a 1944 catalog. A 1935 catalog shows a different style badge, so that's why I'm guessing late-1930s to mid-1940s.

No idea on value, but if that's the original paint, it appears to be in excellent condition for its age and would be worth more than if it's been repainted.

Very Very cool. I have a really old Craftsman that is similar, but mine is beat to hell. If you ever want to trade that for anything PLEASE let me know. Great great great box.

Great item.

I love the ad " the socket wrenches that look like gold and wear like diamonds". I love that!!

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to say thanks for the replies - I had some computer trouble after I posted this thread and am just now catching up with things...

Unfortunately, the lock tumbler (and likely nameplate) are missing from my box, but great to have this info.

Great site and thanks again!

Nice box, and congrats on the sale. I love the ad above. I have to assume those guys are our fathers/grandfathers/etc, and that our appreciation of tools is genetic.

Was the "gold-like finish" a standard on Blackhawk tools? Did it only appear for certain years? Did it wear off quickly? I find Blackhawk stuff regularly, and have never seen anything like a "gold-like finish". Closest I've seen is some Bethlehem sockets, which were copper-colored.
