Looking for a bench drill press and came across this blackhawke model dp514 for $120. Anyone have feed back? I feel like it’s a little on the expensive side but I could be wrong. Any information would be great, I didn’t find much on google. IMG_0570.jpg

I have that exact model. Used it last 3 years with no issues. Note the "e" at the end...not blackhawk. Made in Taiwan, but actually very solid unit. I gave $50 for mine with no stand, but packaged it with a 30" shop fan to get it cheaper. For my area, I'd say 120 is a little steep.

I remember when these came out. Back when I sold imported tools telemarketing (1970s), there was a stink about this where a Japanese company ripped off the name and added an e at the end. We used to joke around in the office calling them, "Ah so... fine Blackhawk-ee shop equipment." The pitch was to tell the buyer it was Blackhawk. Well...it was. Lots of heat. Blackhawke has absolutely nothing to do with Blackhawk, and the name intentionally ripped off to deceive.

Hmm maybe I should keep looking.

Here's mine from 1975. Guess not same model, but very similar. Taiwan or not, I'd much rather have this old girl than most brand new $150 units. Treated me pretty well.

I can't speak for the quality because I never actually saw one, let alone having used one. We sold them to businesses over the phone from the east coast and they were shipped to the customer out of California. The heat from the buyers involved them expecting Blackhawk USA (without the e) and receiving an imported Blackhawke with the e. I imagine most buyers when they heard the name just assumed it was the brand they were familiar with. From the few owners commenting in this thread, they were apparently decent machines. Who knew.
