I tinted my windows but at night, you can still see in. That's the reason I still have a set of cheapo blinds up on the window.

Do you need total darkness or do you need privacy. You can buy obscure patterned film that lets light in but no one can see in day or night. I use to have a solid door before installing a door with windows. I'd never go back.

Use white spray paint, applied very lightly, until you get a frosted glass effect.

Sign vinyl - very cheap, easy to apply with soapy water and a squeegee or credit card, and 100% opaque. Measure, cut, apply, and trim around the edges.

Yep! I also did this to my bedroom! 29 years on the night shift and I cannot sleep with a lit up from the outside bedroom.

Works great!

I'll add another vote for black spray paint... I did it on all my windows and small glass on both doors in the garage and from the outside it looks great, just like the lights are off.

For the windows I feathered the thickness a bit towards the top so i still get some natural light in but you still can't really see in.

For diffused light in my garage, I used a translucent piece of white plastic, slightly larger than the window, secured with a few screws to the frame. People can't see in, but the light has been reduced, so I can get from the parked car to the house(attached garage), with no additional light. A side affect, has been the elimination of spiders and flies accumulating at the window. Probably due to the reduced light intensity.

Might want to be careful of using black or dark colored paint, or maybe even black cardboard for that matter. A local guy who had bought an old 3 story building downtown and was using it for storage painted all of the windows black. On a very hot, sunny summer day all the windows on south side started exploding out of the building and raining glass down on the sidewalk below. Black absorbs heat, white or light colors would work better.
