My name is Curt, been a member for atleast a year, just lurking and getting ideas. Currently live in Central Illinois, little background leading up to my building my attainable dream garage.
Bought a house about 10 years ago in a neighborhood on the outskirts of town, had a three car garage ( 27 wide X 21 Deep), at the time I thought I was set and had all kinds of room, year later, bought a third vehicle to put in there and things got tight with my wife and I's daily Drivers. fast forward a couple more years and a couple kids later and their stuff is everywhere and I need a change. My wife grew up on a farm, my parents owned a cabin on a lake with some acreage, so we knew we wanted to get out into the country at some point, but we couldn't go too far out of town as it would cause issues with school, daycare, distance to our jobs. We were never really looking for a house to buy through a realtor, but we were ready to jump on something if the right thing came up, if it didn't we would eventually build.
fast forward to Feb 2017 and I remember my wife coming downstairs and telling me to get my shoes on we have to go drive by a house that just went on the market that day and she has already falling in love with it from the pictures. Turns out house is only about 4 miles from current house, exactly in the location we wanted to be. We drove by in the dark, couldn't see much, called the realtor we had bought our house from 9 years prior the next morning and went and looked at it that afternoon and bought on the spot. It was everything we wanted, built in 2012, 1.5 story, kids bedrooms upstairs, master on main floor, finished basement, 1.33 acres, no neighbors for 3/4 mile in any direction, colors, design, it was all exactly what we wanted to build and the price was considerably cheaper then what we could have bought a lot and built for. I immediately start dreaming of a detached garage and what I can all do. Attached garage is 32' wide and 25' deep. All that is put on hold as it took 10 months to sell our old house ( two mortgage payments ****).
January 2018 we close and I start discussing options with a few of the local pole barn builders for a detached garage. Came down to two companies, Blunier Builders was a local company, one of the first people I talked to, stayed in touch, answered all my questions timely. The other was Morton Buildings, Somewhat local to me in Central Illinois. I work in Morton at Caterpillar and so I was able to go to their HQ and meet with sales guys and draw everything up. They told me they would call me back by end of the week with the quotes for what I wanted and I never heard from them again. I was already leaning toward the other company so that made that decision much easier to make.
Originaly plan was for 40X48X12, I have since changed that to a 36X48X12 after going rounds with the county about building permit. I wanted the building to sit 10 ft off the property line, same as the lot next door building does. Nobody lives there, he just has a few buildings on the lot that he keeps farm equipment and machinery in. County tells me I have to be 20 ft from line and so I compromise with my wife down to 36' wide to keep the building a little further from the house as originally planned.
Building will be insulated, finished inside, Led Lights inside and out, Heat, 16' by 6' porch on side with entry door. 36' X 30' Concrete pad out front for kids to play.
Picture of house when we bought it, pool was gone day 2

Had to do some other work around the house, Old deck was in bad shape, these people didn't take care of anything. I ripped it off and put composite up, no pictures of old deck.

Behind the garage and connected to deck was a brick "patio", this thing was done so badly, and had sunk in multiple spots. I ripped it out and hauled the brick away. There will be a concrete walkway connecting the back door of garage to the deck and to the porch on side of building.

PIcture from day they started about three weeks ago. you can see the well head with caution tape around it, this was definitely going to be in the way and I had plans to do something to protect it as it would be in the gravel drive up to the building.

This brings me to today, They are working on interior today, Electric company is coming back Monday AM to finish interior work and then they will be complete inside. Garage door is supposed to be done on Wednesday. Heater installed Thursday, The rest of the concrete early the next week. Then throw a big party shortly after to break it in properly.
