Blade for cutting asphalt

I need to cut a small piece of asphalt about 36" by 60". I know I could use a jack hammer or larger saw, but I'm going to use an old Skil saw that I have. It's a real brute. Any suggestions on brands of blades that do a particularly good job on asphalt? I'll probably go to Home Depot for one.

Typically you would use a diamond blade but the price is high. Any blade made for concrete will work for your small cut but will wear out pretty fast. If you blacktop is much thicker than two inches you won't get full cut.

If you don't own one rent a 14" gas cut off saw and purchase a couple of disposable blades for asphalt what ever you don't use you can always return.For the cost of a concrete blade you would just ruin it.

there are actually cheap, basically one time use diamond blades at home depot. they work pretty well and dont cost much more than an abrasive blade. i find them quieter and not as smelly as an abrasive blade going through blacktop. i use one to cut a channel for a few wires that needed to get to the other side of a driveway.

for a hole that size i would not rent a big cut off saw. they are a brute to use, and hard to keep on track espically if you've never used one before.

Id rent a gas saw.

I just got through killing a brand new Makita grinder cutting a 2'x10' section out of my asphault driveway.

Stone dust is pretty abrasive. Just a FYI

I went through two $15 HD blades. Cut it rather quick into manageable squares and beat the hell out of them with picks and sledges. Took a few hours, but the job got done.

I just cut through some blacktop and I used cutting discs from Harbor Freight. They were about 5-6 in the pack for about $6.99. These fit my circular saw and worked well. I recall they were made in Russia of all places.

For the price, I'd give them a try.

I typically excel at making anything at hand do the job. That said, believe it or not, I have done some asphalt cutting with an old beat skilsaw & carbide blade. Just watch our for the flying carbide tips!
