Blade guide renewal on a bandsaw

Was lucky a while back and got a decent shop class bandsaw for free.
The blade guide used wooden dowels and let the saw down, at least with the oak home made dowels I used.
So with the help of "The Tank" ie a PROFILA 1K62 soviet made lathe i converted it to ball bearing guides. The hard part was making the offset pillars for the blade guides, since I have no 4jaw. With some extra effort it worked out real nice and the saw now runs really well with both a 16 mm blade for straight cuts and a 4,5 mm blade for real curvy cuts.

Best regards

Ola

Nice! I have an old Oliver band saw, and have tried various blade guides, but haven't been able to get anything to fit. Yours looks great! curt

That should do the trick for you. Nice job. When using a 3 jaw chuck, a shim can be added under only one jaw to produce an eccentric shaft. By comparing the shim used to the offset produced, you can use those numbers to calculate shim required to machine a particular offset.

Very nicely done and a great upgrade. The original Delta 14" band saw came with steel blade guides and a lot of folks here use "cool blocks" which are phenolic because no machining was required to replace them. Carter makes a nice bearing replacement for US saws.
