I wanted to start this thread to show all my basement projects and just projects in general that I do in my home shop. I don’t have a garage unfortunately but I dream of building one someday. Most of my car work is done in the driveway or under the carport. I live with my parents in a suburb of Southwest Virginia and they gave me the whole basement for my shop equipment and tools and my dog so basically everything is down here except for my room. In return for having the whole basement I also have to do all the laundry since mom and dad struggle to climb stairs these days and the washer and dryer is down here which I’m totally fine with doing laundry as that’s a very fair trade off. I actually enjoy doing laundry lol. My dad also has an office down here but he doesn’t use it anymore so his desktop computer just sits there hasn’t been used since probably 2022 so I’m going to talk to them and see if maybe I could get a iMac to put in there because I am an Apple guy.

I will post pictures of my toolboxes and shop equipment and then projects as I go along as well as new tools I get. I’ve been wanting to start this thread for awhile but I’ve been debating doing it or not because I feel like nobody will be interested in someone that lives at home still lol. I’m 24 right now. Turned 24 in April. I really want to start doing tool reviews too as I use a wide variety of brands both at home and work.

Looking forward to posting about updates and projects and especially tools. I also enjoy baseball and many other things too. I’m a Toyota tech for work.

Pictures to follow in another post when I take some pictures and get a little more organized. I’m not sure exactly how big it is it’s the size of the house I just had to pick a selection lol.

Also editing to add I’m currently trying to restore my classic air cooled Volkswagen Super Beetle too when motivation happens which isn’t often when I’m a mechanic full time lol.

I don't think there's anything wrong with living at home so long as you are contributing, so I'll be interested in seeing how you set up.
I agree.
I‘m old enough to be your grandpa (77) and I’ve been following your progress ever since you first started posting on GJ. I sure didn’t have a garage when I was 24.

I figured my first post should be my main toolbox. Which doesn’t get very much attention anymore ever since I got my US General carts and have acquired so many tools that I’m out of space everywhere lol. My parents got me this when I was I think 13 in 2015 from Kmart because at the time my mom worked there so she got a discount. They got it for me as a birthday present and for then it was the perfect size as I didn’t have many tools. Now that I’ve got this and a 5 drawer cart and one of the single drawer carts at home I’m out of space still lol. I’ve got tools laying everywhere and in all the vehicles.

Excuse the mess in the background I’ve been trying to clean and organize as much as I can the last few weeks. I will post pictures of my single drawer cart and 5 drawer cart next as well as my mini toolboxes and maybe some more of my tool collection. I don’t know where that missing screwdriver is from my drawer. The missing pick broke I do remember that. I can’t even tell you the last time any of those drawers were opened except the top one for an oil change sticker last weekend. I want to eventually get some pliers racks for my pliers and I’ll take the wrenches out completely and put them with the rest of my wrenches in many different places lol. Good starter box but once I got it it filled up rather quickly. I was impressed with myself for getting so many screwdrivers in one drawer lol. Majority of my tools at home are from parts stores or pawn shops. My work tools are parts stores and pawn shops and tool trucks mainly. I’ve been collecting tools since I was about 9 years old. That is a fine collection of mongrel tools. I started out pretty much the same many years (decades?) ago. I have slowly upgraded over that time. It's an ongoing process, but never fear there are plenty of members here willing to show you what you need i.e spend your money.

My general tool purchasing rule is if it's something I will use infrequently I'll get the cheap thing that will get the job done. If it's something I'll use a lot I'll get the best I can afford. I've modified/fabricated a lot of tools that work just as good as the fancy stuff it just doesn't look as pretty.

Careful, you might trigger Blake by mentioning modifying tools! 😜
