Greetings
I imagine the photos of before and after may have the purists among us clutching their pearls, and for that, I am heartily sorry. But when all is said and done, my saw, my choices, however off the beaten path they may seem.
A few months ago I picked up a 103.24280 Craftsman bandsaw and immediately tore into it.
It worked fine, same owner since new and came with 5 unused blades in the original boxes from ‘50’s?
Totally disassembled, except for the lower wheel bearing. Too many horror stories on here about that task, and they are fine. New tires, new motor bearings, it didn’t have casters so I got some and threaded inserts. My shop floor is a raised pattern Race Deck and as such, not really conducive to rolling around. The bandsaw, not me.
Taught myself a new skill: engine turning. I’m trying to convince my wife to let me do the handles on our dinnerware. A solid “hell no!” Was forthcoming.
I picked up a rusted hulk of a Craftsman table saw for the fence. Had to shorten it and come up with a fix for the broken cast piece that clamps against the table to hold it fast. Made some front rails out of aluminum.
The blade guard needed to be replaced because it had been cut through.
That’s all folks!
Oh, one other note: I have a therapy appointment next week to address “the blues” that have gotten hold of me.
Be well
Jeff
