I am sick of wanting a blast cabinet and am seriously considering pulling the trigger on one. Ive looked at just about every option it seems like from:
1. Homemade with tp tools kit
2. Barrel Blaster
3. Name brand
4. Harbor freight

I am looking for a cabinet i can blast all sorts of stuff in. From steel wheels to leaf springs

After a bunch of frustration and research i cant see spending 3-500 for a ****** china cabinet that i have to cobble together a bunch of upgrades. SO i started seriously considering a little higher dollar cabinets. More $ up front lest frustration in the end. This is the cabinet that has pulled ahead.

I would really like to hear what you guys think.

The cabinet itself is not the important factor. Enough air to properly supply it is, and for serious work, a cyclone separator is the only way to fly. This type of extractor and separator swirl the extracted mix to separate the dust from the usuable particles by using a tornado action, hence the name. They also extract the dust from the cabinet better, so you can see what you are blasting. The funnel shaped device on the rear of my blast cabinet is the cyclone separator.

The TP cabinet is a good one to go with i own two sizes up from the one you are looking at. I have had mine for years it has served me very well in my beadblast and powdercoat bussiness if you go with it let me know I can tell you where to get consumables for it at half the price that TP wants.

I have one built from the TP ScatBlast kit and I'm very happy with it. I'd recommend something with a foot pedal. Using a trigger gun with heavy gloves is a PITA.

Another vote for the TP cabinets. I started off with a small 780 cabinet with VAC34 vacuum, then about 15 years ago upgraded to a 960 with a 176 dust collector. I've recommended these cabinets to friends and shop owners, they've been happy over the years.

Another TP 960 owner here. No complaints, great set up. Had it about 6 years. I wouldn't recommend anyone go with the smaller units from TP, the 960 is 'about right".

hmmm.. kinda leaning towards the 960 now. The extra width sure would come in handy.

thanks for another option! mind telling what you paid?

Keep an eye on their sales, I waited until they offered free shipping & saved about $250. :) Request a catalog & you'l be on their mailing/email list.

Thanks, the 850 is 100 bucks off right now. The 960 isnt on sale, but both have free shipping to me since im in zone 1.

Definitely go with the 960. I've had one for over 20 years and can't say enough good things about it. Friends have bought smaller TP units and are not happy when they see my 960.

OK I am looking for a cabinet too, I went to the TP website, they say (People use the terms sandblast cabinets, sandblasters and sandblasting cabinets when referring to these machines. However, we do not recommend the use of silica or any type of sand in our abrasive blaster cabinets.) Why? Also would it be smart to step up and get the one with the soda blast attachment? It also does not specify how much of an air compressor you need. I have a 7.5 HP Ingersoll that is good for 24 CFM and 175 PSI. What size do you guys that currently have a 960 run?

If you are considering Harbor Freight, look at Grizzly after you decide which one. Grizzly sells the exact same units for about 20% less.

No I dont work for Grizzly, but I do my homework.

Both myself and a friend have TP cabinets. I've had mine for almost 20 years, and have been well pleased.

I have the TP 960 too i run it on my craftsman pro 8hp with an 80 gallon tank has no problem whatsoever keeping up with the blaster. Also i have also found tips for the TP gun for approx 2.50 t0 3.00 for a pack of 3 which is way cheaper than the TP tools tips are.

One of the most important features in a blast cabinet is a clear view to see your parts. Look at how each model protects the view glass.

Looking at the TP models it has an inner protector sheet. I guess the front glass has to be removed and the protector sheet changed out or can you do it from the inside of the cabinet?

The Little Blaster has a roll of film on the outside of the cabinet. Loosen the 4 wing nuts that hold the front glass frame, pull out a new piece of film, tighten down the nuts, tear off the old film. 10 - 15 seconds to do this.

Here is a link to the mylar roll and the holder if you need to purchase one.

Also, the blow gun inside the cabinet is real handy for cleaning off the parts before you open the door and for clearing out the cabinet when you change media types. They call it the Blow-Off nozzle Kit.

The nice thing about the aforementioned cyclone seperator on a cabinet is the ability to see. Also, the blast cabinet at work, which is an Empire cabinet with the seperator, has not had the glass changed in at least 25 years, and has no need to. The system pulls an external airflow across it.

You live near TP Tools (they are in Canton if I recall) and three posts now claiming to know a "source" for TP items much cheaper than TP themselves, and yet you don't reveal your "source". Whats the big ******** secret. If its a legitimate business, tell us who it is. If they only do over the counter, say so, if they do mail order, say so, why leave people hanging with a "will let you guys know"?

On the TP cabinets, the protective inner liners for the glass are held with two sided tape...you just peel one off from the inside...and change 'em.
