EDIT : started the mods and making my own stuff in shop . go to the last few new posts .

----------------------------------

so i have a 960 model blast box and its been great so far . i got it used and was super happy with the deal .

its got the std round can filter sucker unit for dust . but i do get dust clouds inside since i live in the north east rust belt and fix up my older stuff and its chunky at times .

i was looking at this unit from skat blast for a REAL filter box . https://skatblast.com/product/cabinet-hepa-dust-collector-180-dc/ . were i work we have 2 boxes and they are setup with filters like these and do real good . so i was thinking it would be nice for me to have one on mine .

now i didnt get any real paper directions with my current setup so maybe its not setup right ? ? should the outlet of the fan be plumbed in to the intake side of my box ? that would make it a closed loop like the ones we have at work . it does have the hose fitting for this by the looks of it . i do need to shoot them a call or email to verify but figured i would ask here first .

here is a link to the replacement top for mine to show the hose outlet spot . or is this to be plumbed to a outside vent unit like a house hold dryer has ? https://skatblast.com/product/vac-34-quiet-kit/

last item i was looking at was this re-claimer unit . https://skatblast.com/product/stand-alone-abrasive-reclaimer/ . figure save 50% of the media and keep filter clean up to a min . and paying for truck freight anyways so buy it now ver later if i do get the big filter unit .

Re: is it worth it ? blasting cabinet filter unit for skat blast box

I put a Dust Deputy on mine and now I never have to clean the filter. Just dump the bucket once in a while. :)

noticed this unit on the box at work . think i will try and make one for mine. its a reclaimer for inside the box . the point on the bottom is open and media is always falling out of it back to the bottom .

its on a older late mid to late 80's maxi-blast box

Re: is it worth it ? blasting cabinet filter unit for skat blast box

popped the hole today for a 3" long chunk of 2.5" exhaust pipe . i cut 4 tabs on the end of the pipe for a 1/4" gap off the face of the unit to let the dust in but the heavy media drop out to be recovered . the unit is secured to the inside face of the end wall threw the same hole the factory put in . i cant wait to try this out and see if it makes it better like i was use to seeing on a unit i use to use that i copied this from .

next mod i will be looking to make a filter box and draw more CFM of air threw it .

so my reclaimer has been doing good . i seem to be loosing less media . i was still getting a lot of dust so i changed brands of media and as soon as i opened the bag WOW what a change .

the tractor supply **** for 10.00 per bag has so much dust already inside it .

i swapped to this BLACK BEAUTY and what a change . open the bag and its ALL black and 98%-99% zero dust in the media . i get it at the local building supply wholesaler for stone / concrete / block / cement type products . they have pallets worth of it .

i just blasted 4 16" steel truck wheels the front faces only and the 1/2 bag of used media still looks better than the new stuff from tractor supply they sell .

You did a hell of a job on that, good to hear it works well. Keeping the media from getting full of dust will pay for itself fast
