I have put steel up on the ceiling with a 6mm vapor barrier. It's a hip roof. Going to use bats of insulation. The block appears to be uninsulated. Will a lp furnace like a hot dawg cost way to much with the uninsulated block? If I put a wood burner in I will have to switch insurance companies.

Blowin for the cieling would be my choice.

If you can afford it I would glue, nail, or screw insulation to the block and then sheet over to help maintain.

block is a poor insulator. it also takes a lot to warm it up if you just heat as needed.
as they say, pay for insulation once, pay for heat every-time your furnace comes on.
should think about insulating the walls

I'd definitely try to insulate the walls somehow. Block walls **** the heat right out of the place.

What's your intentions? Keeping the heat from escaping thru the roof is a good start and maybe all you need to take the chill off to get some work done. Otherwise it tends to get expensive.
