There's a lot of variables when it comes to pricing construction work, such as location, access to site and conditions, type of block, finish work, waste removal etc.

what's the going rate for 8x8x16inch block laid.

full access, perfectly flat, true knee wall and concrete floor already in place, one man door and one 8x7 door, average height 12feet (4/12 pitch one direction roof), with 8 pilasters, for 20x40 block buliding was around $7000. Materials was also around $7000. It was a steal because they were very hungry.

Also include whether it's a side job or a regular job, do they need somebody to tend for them, working off scaffolding or in a hole.

It was a dollar a block(8 inchers) for about....well,forever here.Now,its probably 1.50?But that's figuring a big ZERO on the "hassle scale".IOW's,scaffold high.

Around here it's been $1.25 per block for two or three core, and $1.75 for termite blocks (solid on top)

I used to sell masonry supplies and we'd usually figure the labor cost about as much as materials. That was for a licensed contractor. It's been my personal and work experience, you get what you pay for...
