Blocking rust after evaporust?

Cosmoline is what rust veto had listed on the description. I will look into CRC. Does it leave a slippery feeling? In my mind varnish is quite grippy once dry.

Not slippery. I can't notice it's there. For things that I don't handle with my hands (patio furniture bolts etc), I spray it on and leave it to dry.

That is what I’m after. Protection but don’t want a ratchet that is slippery.

I made a trip out to Home Depot. Found a few things to try. It wasn’t a special trip as I was in need of a fly swatter and my wife needed bird seed.
I sprayed a few of my ball peen hammers. I like the fluid film, and the PB Blaster the best. Both have the same finish. I haven’t looked at them in a few hours to determine if the sheen or slickness has faded. The WD40 is quite thick. I don’t care for it, but could be user error and didn’t shake enough.

The WD40 is thick, as shown below. The marks are from my finger, attempting to smooth it out.

Thanks for the comparison pictures. I especially like your Heller hammer! About how heavy is it? I might give the CRC product a try. What did you think of it?

The Heller hammer is one of my favs, it is a 4oz. Feels great in the hand. I have a blue point 12oz and a Vaughn 16oz that get all the action. Looking at the hammers today, the CRC 3-36 is in my top 2, as it has a non greasy, sheen finish. I like Fluid Film and the CRC the best. Regardless, any protection is better than none.
