lots of threads quickly pass over the idea of using blow-in insulation for pole barns....why?

i am going for my permits for a large 40x70x13 workshop that will have th posts on 12' spacings. why not go metal siding, vapor barrier..plastic then blow in attic style insulation to get a r18?

for the bottom 8' i would have panels ip to protect it and use twine to secure the top 5' from pushing out. i relize it will settle but all tha means is that a year or two down i cut a few holes and blow more in....

it seems the cheapest way to get good insulation.

You'll need some of this http://www.jrproductsinc.com/shop/pc/InsulWeb-c31.htm

And staples to secure it. I've never done what you're suggesting, but I think you're going to need something to attach your 8' panels to. What is the plan for that? Panels of what?

You will not be able to just blow it and then put the panels up, it will bulge way out with 12' between the poles.

Can't see why you need a vapor barrier, where are you located?

If I was going to do this I'd put up the mesh, then 2x4s horizontally to hang your panels on. Think I'd use OSB horizontal. Blow 4' then put another row of OSB on and blow some more.

You will need a hell of a lot of insulation, look for the cellulose manufacturers association and contact the nearest and see if you can buy direct. You'll save a ton that way. Truck load or on pallets, be aware the pallets are piled about 7' tall.

i need a vapor barrier.. (i believe) because the space will occasionally be heated. for the panels, i am looking at putting 2x12' in horizontally to support the panels....but...

Look at my build thread for pics.
My walls, from the outside in are: steel panels, house wrap, 2x4 girts on 24" centers, DENSE PACK cellulose, 2x4 girts, netting, 1" polyiso foam panels, and 1/2" drywall. The first 24" from the floor is 1/2" plywood.

Read up on "dense packing". If done correctly it is a marvelous wall insulation.
As stated above, find a cellulose manufacturer. I was fortunate to have one about 15 miles away. (Polar Bear) Way cheaper and cleaner than the **** at the big box store.

And BTW, you won't need any poly vapor barrier.
